Most anyone familar with racing have seen the tell-tale racing cages built into the 'fast' cars at the track. The true 'value' of these safety devices have often been demonstrated on the six-o'clock news. Every great once in a while you get to see in person.

Oh my. How was the driver?

A friend of mine was just in an accident Friday. Drunk driver hit her from behind and pushed her into oncoming traffic it sounds like. It was a very serious accident (she is supposed to be OK right now, out of ICU), but they did say if it wasn't for the safety of her car she could have been dead.

The driver apparently suffered only minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

The car malfunctioned and left the end of the track, through the sand pit, off the barrier and rolled several times before coming to rest in the field.

JP...wow...that guy is VERY lucky...especially since that car is MASSIVELY illegal""" ...

no cross-bars in door openings,
no roll-bar padding,
no cross-tubes under the dash with the modified firewall,
no sill tubes (that I can see) since the modified floorboard/firewall), no straps on the blower,
illegal racing seats,
no 5-point harness,
illegal axle studs9for running slicks)
no bead-lock screws
no externally-mounted master power SHUT OFF switch
under-speed rated front tires(they look like passenger radials, probably S speed rated)

and that's just from what I can see in the photos

....whoever tech'd that car should be fired by the track, NHRA, and fined along with the driver being banned.

It's one thing to build a fast car...it's another thing to build a legal car...the latter usually costs more.

Nice photos...I hope the guy was ok...but someone needs to check his cars more carefully...not just for his safety, but for everyone elses(competition included).

That car should NEVER have made it to the burnout box.

a shame...it could have been a nice car...too bad there are people out there willing to risk everyone's safety, just so they can go fast...the only thing I can see that he did right was...taking it to a track to race.

RE: Value

Appears to be a fiberglass body, maker unknown. Several of the body builders offer a concealed roll cage as an option, and that may be the case here. Hard to pad a concealed cage, and different tracks may have different rules on this as not all are NHRA sanctioned. This could have been much worse.
I've seen cars on oval tracks with roll cages not much better than this one!
The glass body makes this one look far worse than reality!
