Mark 8 backglass weatherstrip

I tried to search before posting, but I can't find My 95 Mark 8 has some aging weatherstrip. On the backglass, the weatherstrip/gasket is in rough shape. I talked to Fastpartsnetwork.com (formerly fordpartsnetwork.com) since they tend to be the least expensive place for OEM parts. They said that the weatherstrip is not available from Ford by itself, only comes with the backglass. At just under $700, that's just not going to work. Does anyone know if the gasket is available anywhere aftermarket?

You're stuck.

Many of us with nice Marks are driving around with warped/damaged molding because it is just to expensive to fix.

The only post I've seen where someone was successful at repairing it was when they used super glue to hold it down. But you better be good with super glue. I tried it on my last Mark, which ruined the paint and still didn't work.

RE: Mark 8 backglass weatherstrip

Ford is famous for the weatherstrip to glass replacement. Ever try buying 1/4 windows for the Fox Mustang due to crappy weatherstip? VERY expensive endeveour. $500-$700.

From markviii.org

BlackIce sent me some pics of the Pep Boys bodyside molding he used on his back window, and it looks pretty darn good. However, before I resort to that I'm thinking about trying out an idea that is similar to your's, and I'm wondering if anyone else had tried this. What I've got in mind is using body molding tape, if I can find some that is narrow and thin enough. As long as it doesn't show, this would also work on the spots you mentioned on the sides (which is where my wrinkles are) where the trim doesn't lie flat against the body surface.

RE: Mark 8 backglass weatherstrip

Go to your local glass installation place and ask for 3M universal weatherstripping. It is in shape of a T with one side being longer than the other one from the cross section. My back moulding was warped the entire leangth around back glass from the sun. They razorbladed it close to the thick part that holds the window in and then cemented the 3M on top of it filling in the crack.
The only thing that you can tell that it isnt factory, is the rear part that goes along the trunk lid doesnt come out as far as the original one did. Heres some pics. Sorry there not close ups, but its best I have at the moment.
Before anyone tells me that my rear tires are on backwards, (directional tread), I had slicks on and changed at night, and then changed them back after i took the pic in morning. The rear tires are on wrong sides in pic.
