Need Tires for the Mustang

We need new tires for the Mustang (2000 GT).

Anyone have ideas/suggestions? I can't believe how expensive they all are!

The Falken's seem good and cheap -- anyone have experience with them?

Tire size 245-45-17.

RE: Need Tires for the Mustang

Yokohama AVS ES 100's. Excellent in the dry and in the rain. I have those and know others that do as well, they work excellently.

If the car is going to be driven in snow, dedicated winter tires should be installed.

RE: Need Tires for the Mustang

Had those exact Falkens put on the ladies Trans Am. I won't go out there and say they are the best, but they are a great tire for the price.

I've never driven a car with the Yok's on them like Dave mentioned so I can't compare them to that.

RE: Need Tires for the Mustang

Yokohama Avid's are close to $25 each more than the falkans. If worth it, I'll get them. I just want to be sure we're getting a good tire, although I can have the kid take my car in the snow.

RE: Need Tires for the Mustang

I don't know about the falkens or the avids. but i like the avs es100's

nitto drag radials are fun too

RE: Need Tires for the Mustang

Yeah, he wants drag radials. But if mama doesn't have DR's there's no way he's getting some. }(

ROTFLMAO! :7 :7

RE: Need Tires for the Mustang

How about the Sumitomo HTR Z?

It's an average tire, but it is "W" rated (168 mph) and only costs $72. And they are as good as the Yoko AVS ES100 in the rain.

RE: Need Tires for the Mustang

Wayne, I'm looking for all-season's. We'll see how the winter goes here as to whether or not we need snow tires, or I'll just have the kid take my car. But considering everything, I don't want to get summer tires.

Dave, those Yokohama's look good, and they're cheaper on tirerack than they were on tires.com. Those may be what we get. We'll probably get them sometime next month. The kid is getting antsy to "remove" the rest of the rubber from the tires he has. }(

I like them, and they're not very expensive. But they're not supposed to be good in the snow. with a mustang (or a lincoln, for that matter), you should have dedicated snow tires anyway.

RE: Need Tires for the Mustang

About the snow, last year we didn't have much IIRC, and they remove it quickly. Considering the situation now where we don't really need to drive all the time (the kid usually carpools to school anyway), we may not need them. If we do have a lot of snow, I think I'd still rather get snow tires for the Lincoln and keep the Mustang parked.

RE: Need Tires for the Mustang

I have a mint (1k miles) pair of 255/45/17 Michelin Pilot tires.

Let me know if this is something you're interested in.

I had Falken GR-451 on my cobra Rs and these were the hardest, loudest tires I have ever had. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

RE: Need Tires for the Mustang

Jeremi, I'm definitely interested. Will the 255 make much of a difference?

Shoot, I did want to boycott Michelin though -- but if we can work something out, that'd be great.

How about the Sumitomo HTR+? W-rated Ultra High performance All-Season for $87.

Or Kuhmo Ecsta ASX? Same as above for $99.

I saw those too - but I have no experience with them either. I guess what I meant when I said the tires were pricey, is that my 1st choices were way up in the price range, and I'm leery about those in the lower ranges (unlike for the Lincoln, where I could go with a much better brand of tire without breaking the bank).

Right now we're seriously considering working out something with Jeremi. I think we're down to either those Michelins or the Yokohamas, unless someone has particular experience in this weather zone with something else.

RE: Need Tires for the Mustang

Well, just an update, Jeremi was right when he came to the meet -- we're gonna need snow tires now. I guess the car is stuck somewhere. ::nono::
