that was my ticket, with me pointing at it. The officer was giving out tickets for expired plates. I had the 03 sticker on mine, after recieving the ticket, i went in my glovebox, and found the 04 sticker. So, yea, i got a pic of it and had to send in the pic instead of 25$ He also said that if i was caught driving with the 03 sticker, i could get my license taken...anyone know bout that, probably just those funny illinois laws.

I've never heard of that Shawn, but they change the laws around here all the time. I think it was pretty crappy of him to give out tickets for expired plates -- especially on out of state cars. Oh well, at least he didn't look in the garbage can...

I think he would have taken your license for the expired plates, Shawn. Taken the license as bond on a ticket and then returned to you when you go to court. I figured they did that everywhere, but I guess that's wrong. They take your license as bond, unless you have a bond card to give them which you can buy from an insurance company, when you get pulled over for traffic offenses such as speeding, not making a complete stop......etc.
Good thing he didn't check for city stickers.......that's a stupid illinoise law. x(

Yea i got a ticket that weekend too. Wrong way on a one-way. Apparently to avoid the conviction on my record (even out of state) i have to take a traffic-safety class. Good thing they offer it online, or else i'd be making another trip to chicago.

They wanted to take my license as bond. But since i figured i'd need it to do some drinking later in the weekend i opted to follow the cop back to the station and put up cash instead. I didn't even think of using my AAA card, come to think of it they do give you a card that's specifically for bond.

Oh yeah -- they don't take your license, but they do hold it as bond, and then your ticket serves as your license. Way back when, I remember when I'd get pulled over and the cops would check to see if there were a lot of holes in my license (more holes, more staples to the court papers).

I got stopped in downtown Chicago a couple of years ago for making a right turn on red (didn't even know it was illegal), and the cop read me the riot act. He wanted to take my license, but I insisted on paying it right then because I didn't feel like being without it. When he said, "we'll have to go to the station", I said "let's go". He went back and talked to his partner, then came back and told me to drive safely and get lost. Apparently, he wasn't in the mood to go back to the station.

I learned a lesson that day and did it again a year or so later, and got off again. Unfortunately, it didn't work for Dave, but it's always worth a try.
