Ran a M3

My first real race in about 3 or 4 months. Was just cruising along on the interstate at 75mph. When I see these HIDs slowly creep up along side me. He gets next to me and I notice the M3 badge. Looked to be a almost brand new car. I was like hellz yes! Always wanted to run one of these.

So I bring my speed up and start paceing him. Running at about 85 mph we both punch it. I click OD out real quick and nail the gas. Not at a shift point :( but we'll see how I do anyways. I immedietly drop back to his rear bumper, but I'm still running strong and I stay in it. We run up to the triple digit mark and he's got about a car length on me. He stays on it and I keep giving chase. He let out at 115 on it and I didn't really drop anymore room. At the most he had 1 1/2 car lengths on me.

I think the results where about what I expected. We both slowed it back down to 80, and I pull along side of him. I flash him a thumbs up and he nods with a big smile on his face. We just continued on our way from there. We ran side by side till he took an exit about 5 miles down from us.

Was good times :)

a new m3 and u did this well. shocking. great job. ive really got an itch to race an older boxier m3 since theyre closer to our hp level.

I’m not trying to piss on your parade, but...
I don’t know how your 15.7 Mark can keep up with a 13.6 @ 105MPh M3.
Are you sure he downshifted?

It takes an M3 just one second to go from 100 to 120, which I know is much faster then a Mark, so I’m pretty sure he didn’t know how to race.

BS.

That would require well over 700 hp at the wheels, and that's not even factoring wind or road resistance.

M3's are fast, but they ain't "all that". I doubt it has better aerodynamics than the mark, but i'm sure it weighs less. And it has about 50 hp more. So the M3 pulling a car and a half running from 85 to 115 mph seems about right. Actually it seems fast for the M3, but if jay didn't get the gear he wanted (at 85 i always get third, then have to yank it into second), that sounds about right.

RE: Ran a M3

How many of you guys have run door to door with low 14 second cars at the track, while running 15's?

I can remember a race with a 5.0 Mustang where he ran 14.3 and just BARELY beat me and my 15.0.

It always depends on the skills of the driver. Get the jump and you will be amazed at what you can do. I ran door to door on the freeway from 70-120 with a new GT stang that I'm 99% sure was not stock. Do you think I let him floor it first? Hell no!!!! And when I say door to door, I mean door to door, no one was gaining an inch.

I also had a Cobra convertible inch away on me on the freeway. I was pretty surprised.

Yes yes, my bad, I miss read the specs. but at any rate, its a mid 13sec car... that’s about a full 2second differences between you two. would you say there is not much difference between a 17sec car, and a 15?

RE: Ran a M3

Just because a car can beat you in the 1/4 doesn't mean squat. Our cars just plain suck from 0-30ish. :-(

From a roll, it's a whole different story.

And then there's always the cliche "In the street, anything can happen"

RE: Ran a M3

I raced an older M3, 98-99 and he didn't pull too much at all on me either on the highway with 3 other people in my car. I can only guess what would have happened had I been alone with less gas.

Older ones aren’t much... I remember I almost blew one up if it was not for the cut off system... I downshifted into first instead of going into third @ 65+ when I was 14, wish I had a video of that needle slamming into 8000 RPM back and forth and made a nice 90degree on a winded road. Damn germen and their Reverse gear instead of first.
