Former LOD President
Well, it was fun. Some had more fun than others though. When we got there, it was raining. It rained until about 12:30, then we started drying the track. They asked anyone with street tires to drive up and down the strip to help dry it. It didn't help that there was no sun.

But Jeremi and Martin were there, I was there with my friends Dave and Mike (dave's car wasn't ready, but they brought both of Mikes cars, an '89 SC and a '95 V8 LX thunderbird with 4.10's), my coworker Charlie showed up with his Crown vic, and Dave's coworker Paul showed up with his Fairmont.

We started running at about 2:30. Which was no good for Jeremi, because he had to leave at 3. I think he got two runs in, and neither went very well.

Jeremi's mark didn't put up any good times, i think he was still in the 15's both runs, with 4.10's. Martin's honda didn't break out of the 16's, but he only got a couple of runs in as well.

Both of Mikes cars were stuck in the high 15's, both with a best right around 15.7. Plus, the SC broke. We had a trailer, though, so we got it back. We'll be figuring out what it is today, my money says it's either a ujoint or a rear end. The speedo jumps but the car don't move. I guess that's what happens when you put slicks on a 4000 lb car with 330 ft-lbs of torque, then drop the clutch at about 4 grand.

The Fairmont ran a best of 12.58. He's running an NA 5.0, obviously with plenty of mods. The motor in it was in a different car last year, and that car (with that motor) was featured in one of the stang magazines recently.

Charlie's Crown Vic (police interceptor model, 10k miles) ran a best of 15.3. He has exhaust, 3.55 rear end, and a jerry tune. I'm pretty sure that's it.

It was pretty crowded, despite the weather, plus we didn't get started till 2:30, so i only got about 8 runs in. Compare that to the 3 runs i got a great lakes this summer. Plus this is actually a decent track, and i only had a wheelspin problem on 1 run.

Here's what i ran:

Note that i included the Tazzo results for 60' and 1/4 mile times and MPH. On run #2 i was rolling when i punched it, so i'd throw that one out if you're trying to evaluate the effectiveness of the Tazzo. For the rest of the runs, it was damn near dead nuts on for the 1/4 time, and more consistent than i expected for 1/4 mph (i thought it would read consistently high). 60' times are a little rough, but they're still within a couple of tenths for all of them, and within a tenth for most of them. 1/4 mile times were really close for most of my runs. I don't know what happened on the last two, i launched just like i launched on all the other runs. I think the Tazzo assumes a certain rollout, and if you stage shallow or deep it can throw it off a little bit. But i had both staging lights lit on all of my runs, so it could only have varied by about 6".

My new best et is 14.784. My new best 60' is 2.160. My new best mph is 98.968. I am SOO close to 100 mph in the 1/4. Come springtime my car will be faster though :). Note that i achieved my best mph on my last run, which is the only run i made with the car fully warmed up. I pushed the car to the line on all my runs but the last run, i didn't even shut it off or pop the hood in the staging lanes. I made all my runs with everything in the car, spare tire, subwoofer, seats, even the beer cans on the floor in the back seat. I also made all my runs at a lower height than stock. Most of the runs were just a couple of inches lowered, the last run was all but slammed (front slammed, just a little bit of suspension in the rear). I think the lowering of the car helped, esp. at the top end of the track.

BTW, is there any possible way we could make doing tables on the board any less user friendly? All i wanted to do was use spaces to lay it out, but the stupid software deleted all the spaces and made me revert to using a mishmash of HTML code, and it doesn't line it up right.

RE: Ubly dragway results

Thanks for posting the Tazzo info Dave. Interesting that it gave rather remarkable close 60 foot times and 1/4 mile ETs with a mixed bag of 1/4 mile speeds. The 1/4 mile speeds were closer at some runs than others, while the ETs were rather consistent. By chance, have you ever calibrated the Tazzo with actual track run(s)?

RE: Ubly dragway results

looks like the intake helped you out some. I bet if you clean that intake up a bit you will be in the 99mph area. I do not know of anyone that has reached the 100+ mph n/a other than red whore. I am sure lonnies car would do it though. The best I got w/o the headers was a 99.77mph and no gears. 102.57 is my best mph with the headers and all my mods. Hopefully I will beat that this weekend. I am locating some slicks.

Good job Dave, keep up the good work! You gotta hit that 100mph mark.

RE: Ubly dragway results

I don't know...

His new best time might have more to do with better short times than a new intake. What was the car running before? 1/4mile and 60 ft? What were the conditions surrounding that run? Sometimes it's just dumb luck (it was in my case). You click off a 2.1 60 ft and all of a sudden you have a new best ET. It doesn't mean all the engine mods you made recently are working, it just means you got a better launch...

RE: Ubly dragway results

ET is not a good measurement of horsepower. His mph is. Intake=hp=mph

EDIT Looks like it was getting colder and colder on the last couple of runs, as his mph kept increasing.

You will also notice that his "fastest" run did not have his highest mph. The car looks to be making good power. You need some headers on that thing Dave!

RE: Ubly dragway results

They're on their way, courtesy of Steve (along with a torque converter). There goes a bunch more money i don't have :). If all goes as planned someone will be picking them up for me next weekend.

Like i said, come spring time, this thing's gonna be faster! After getting the headers and t/c i might not be able to afford gears (and the requisite driveshaft) quite yet, but we'll see what i can scrape up. with a 3200 stall i'm going to need some kind of LSD in there.

BTW, the supercoupe that broke, snapped the halfshaft. The last 2-3 inches of splined part that sticks in the differential sheared right off. It got dark so we haven't gotten the diff out yet to inspect it, but the owner has the original gears and diff from his '95, which will be going in it anyway.

RE: Ubly dragway results

I have some extra ones lying around, Dave.
But if I remember correctly the 5 speed SCs had a larger halfshaft on one side than the other.I'm assuming he broke the smaller of the two.You might want to try and locate another larger one.I believe the SC guys cal them "Bigdogs".

RE: Ubly dragway results

Hmm.. i'll have to check that out. Before we buy the part i'll measure them both.

RE: Ubly dragway results

I believe Geno has run over 100 in the TerminVIIItor without the use of power adders such as a supercharger, turbocharger, or laughing gas. In addition, the runs in question were made with all stock internals, qualifying the vehicle for the NA claim of 100 mph stock.

OK maybe you were away or something.

Heres just a few.

The ONLY person that I know of to come close to this was Petey with his Green Mark who ran something like a 13.48 @102 and change or something. He may chime in to correct mt.

Then we have the Old Man Walt.

This from almost 2 years ago?

Oh and Matt T crushed the 100 MPH barrier at the MM&FF shootout.
Plus my cousin Ritchie went over 100 over 4 years ago?

Dennis did it last year too.

No big deal.

Old news Brotha.
LOL!

RE: Ubly dragway results

good we need to get these numbers on that spreadsheet I made. I will update it and send it to Kale again. Maybe we can have all these numbers in the LOD newsletter too.

Yep, i measured them last night. The drivers side was 1.2", the passenger side was 1.5". I'll have to tell him to get another passenger side shaft.

That damn differential is a lot heavier than ours. More of a PITA to get out too. I'm going to have to remove the other halfshaft to get it back in, the exhaust is in the way. I should have removed both to begin with. Once i got the thing loose, i dropped it on my damn finger. The yoke that the driveshaft bolts to landed right on my left pinky finger. It is sore as hell and split wide open. Kinda sucks.
