Feb Car Club "WARS" {not CCB}

First a little explanation is in order.
Crazy VIII's HAS been competing in the Monthly Car Club BASH in Sealy TX, and will continue to do so.
In conjunction with Car Club Bash, another local track has come up with Car Club Wars, it also is a monthly car club race.
Car club Wars is held at Houston Motorsport Park.
It's held on a non competing weekend for CCB.
Meaning, we get to race at both events!!

Now..
On to the first Car Club Wars!

it's the same format as Car Club Bash.
we had a decent turnout for a first time event and it's sure to grow!

Crazy VIII's had 6 cars entered in the race, two of which we "recruited" at the track.
Tiffany ,Paul Goodenough, Scott Kohler and myself rounded out our normal entries

Our new recruits consisted of a fellow racer that we met out at Sealy AND HIS MOM who just happened to be attending this first race.

He had planned on only racing Test & Tune and was pleased to enter and race for "crazy viii's" his mom was the other recruit who was making her first visit to the dragstrip. we were glad to have them aboard!

we had two time trials that were run in a near "round robin" format, meaning we had little or NO cool down between runs.
My first time trial was a eye opening
.616 RT
2.17 60'
6.18 330
9.46 @ 75.30
Air temp was 65 degree's
By the time I got back to the staging lanes for my second time trial run the air temp had climbed to 75 degrees.

Second pass was as follows

.535 RT
2.24 60'
6.26 330'
9.57 @ 74.81

I felt I had a good handle on the tree at this point by my ET's were "all over the place", I really needed a third time trial to "nail down" a good dial in..but... alas, I did not have the opportunity, nor did anyone else.. so I felt confident that ATLEAST everyone else has the same "lack of data" that I and tiffany had.

Round 1 is called and I put my quickest pass on the window.
My round 1 opponent is a Lightning truck dialed in at 7.87

Round 1
9.46--dial in--7.87
.531---RT----.603
2.21----60---1.81
6.27---330---5.14
9.56---1/8---7.93
74.48--MPH--87.57
I tree'd him and stepped on the brake, I scrubbed of .5MPH but not enough to make me run .1 over my dial in {luckily I got the advantage at the TREE!}

This time I get to race a convertible 96ish mustang with a 9.49 dial in Round 2
9.43--dial in--9.49....{close race almost heads up!}
.553----RT----.546 {he treed me!}
2.22----60----2.21 {I'm caught him!}
6.24---330---6.22 {pulling ahead!}
9.50---1/8---9.51 {win light MY LANE!}
75.71--MPH--75.35 {he was barely gaining, couldn't tell though}

Round 3
Once again I find myself staged against yet another Lightning Truck.
His dial in is 7.90 to my 9.53

7.90---dial in---9.53
.4894---RT---.5039 {I didn't know he redlit!}
1.77-----60----2.21
5.11----330----6.22
7.91----1/8----9.51
87.43---MPH---74.76
I broke out, but I didn't know my opponent had already redlit, thus automatically advancing me to the next round.
I wish I would have realized the redlight and not stepped on the brake...I ran .03 under my dial, on the brakes..MUCH work is needed to get a good dial in!!!

Round 4 Everone else in this round has gotten a bye run, the next round will HAVE a bye run.. if I win this round I get a bye run into the final round.
My opponent is the venerable Chris Barnes, Myself and Chris Battled it out during the 03 season with him winning by a SINGLE ROUND!
WE are fierce competitors and great friends!
His dial in was 7.78 to my 9.49

9.49---dial in---7078
.4950--RT---.5399 {I gave it to him, but what are friends for?}
2.23----60---1.69
6.26---330---4.98
9.56---1/8---7.79
75.01--MPH--87.11
I was dissapointed that I "took myself" out on the tree, but after I looked at the data, it wouldn't have mattered IF I HAD cut a perfect light.. I misjudged my dial in by a long shot.
I ran .07 off my dial in, and against Chris Barnes who ran .01 off his dial in.. I guess my race was ended before the tree even came down.
I dialed myself RIGHT OUT OF THE RACE, and the FINAL ROUND.
My day was finished.

Tiffany might be in shortly with her side of the story as well.
Tiff? You out there?

All in all it was a great race
We had 6 cars
5 made it past the first round
3 made it past the second round
1 made it to the 1/4 finals
Tiff is IN the final round of Powder puff {rescheduled due to rain}
and I still have to compete in the presidents race {rescheduled also}

The unofficial points were released last last night.
Here they are:
HALO = 87.06 points
Crazy 8's = 80.00
Vigilante = 45.00
HASTE - 30.00
POMoFo = 30.00
WSM = 0.00

We scored SECOND PLACE with only 6 cars.
Coupled with Last months Third Place finish in the other race, I have to say that "Crazy VIII's" has gotten a good start on the '04 Season!

You can follow the crazy 8's thru the '04 season on our website

RE: Feb Car Club "WARS" {not CCB}

Tommy - Why are you only running 9.4's with 3.73's? Am I missing something. My best 1/8 through a 1/4 mile is 9.3 with 3.08's?

The 1/8th mile can't be as much fun as the 1/4, right?

My NJ track should open in about a month!!

RE: Feb Car Club "WARS" {not CCB}

Dunno Ken,
My car has historically been about .3 slower than Mike "Nightsky".
Before he swapped to 373's I was .3 behind him.
After he and I both swapped to 373's I was still .3 behind him

My best pass was a 9.33 in the 1/8th and 14.31 in the 1/4

I changed the fuel pump and picked up a little.. but i'm still .3 behind.

I lost alot of time due to a worn out front suspension and when I got the tires pointed straight again it went back to being .3 behind nightsky.

I only picked up .3-.4 with the 373's.. and now wish I had gone with the 410's or 430's.

NOw.. what you said about 1/8th mile not being as fun as 1/4 mile.
I have to disagree, sorry.

For the first 20 years I drag raced I NEVER made an 1/8th mile pass.
I had always ran at 1/4 mile tracks.

When I first got the oppurtunity to run an 1/8th mile race I thought to myself."OH great,.. A HALF A RACE".

But in actuality it is "as much fun" if not MORE fun due to how quick the cars in front of you "get out of the way".

The events run FAST, generally cars blow up "after the 1/8th" so we have less downtime.

and... most all performance gains are made up in the 1/8th mile,{believe it or not}
Most importantly the first 60 feet.
picking up .1 in 60 feet turns into .25 on the other end.

And considering the 1/8th mile MPH versus the 1/4 mile MPH.
MY car only picks up 20 MPH between the 1/8th and the 1/4
But it pickes up 75MPH in the first 1/8th.
SO much for marks "doing it all UP TOP".. right?

I never really felt 1/8th mile was going to be any fun...
TILL I TRIED IT.

Give it a shot.. I dont think you'll miss the 20MPH.

RE: Feb Car Club

Wow, that is really surprising that you're not running faster 1/8 times with the gears?

Unfortunately or furtunately, depending on how you look at it, the 2-tracks by me are 1/4-mile all the time........at least I think they are.

One of the reasons I like the 1/4 is I have beat cars that were ahead off the line and through the 1/8th?

RE: Feb Car Club

So how much MPH does your car pick up between the 1/8th mile mark and the 1/4?
{jus curious}

RE: Feb Car Club

RE: Feb Car Club

Tommy - Here is my fastest run to date.......

60' - 2.217
330 - 6.168
1/8 - 9.345
MPH - 77.59
1000 - 12.052
1/4 - 14.317
MPH - 97.46

So, 77mph through the 1/8th and 97mph through the 1/4.

RE: Feb Car Club

RE: Feb Car Club

that's a very good run.

friday I made a 9.30 pass at 76 MPH.
Your running 77mph in the eighth mile, Most cool.

The 60 foot on my 9.30 pass was 2.14

I'm still missing something.. somewhere.
I figure i'm 3-5 MPH in the hole.
