Friday night Tiff and I went to our weekly points race at Lone Star Raceway Park.

I made 8 time trial passes before 9 PM
{the start of round1}

First time trial was a
.543 RT
2.140 - 60
6.119 - 330'
9.4004 @ 75.26

Then I was straight back to the lanes and to the line and ran:
.482{RED}
2.169 - 60'
6.1687 - 330'
9.466@74.80

Straight back to the lanes and to the line and ran:
.554 RT
2.173 - 60'
6.179 - 330'
9.465 @ 75.06

Back to BACK 9.46's!!!!!

So I wait, let the car cool down and get ready for my second set of time trials {usually a 30 minute cool down}

4th run:
.550 RT
2.165 - 60'
6.158 - 330'
9.457@ 74.73

5th Run

6.23 - 330'
9.56 @ 74.14

No cool down, 8th time trial 10 minutes before the round 1 call!
While I'm waiting to go to the line, they call us for ROUND 1
While i'm sitting there I hear SECOND CALL STREET STOCK!!
I get to run as they are giving THIRD AND FINAL CALL! {whew}
.465 RT {OUCH}
2.18 - 60'
6.25 - 330'
9.59 @ 73.93

Round 1 is already in the lanes, and I pull up along side one of the MANY Lightning pickups that are in attendance.

We exchange pleasantries and begin the obliglitory smack talk preceding round 1.

There's an odd number of cars, so they draw the bye run.... I dont win the draw so I will have to RACE round 1

Left Lane Right Lane
JGross T Douglas
Dial in 8.04----9.48
RT .6665--------.563
60'1.73---------2.17
330' 5.11-------6.23
ET 8.001--------9.57 {hit the brakes}
84.48MPH--------70.7 {-4,5MPH}
I tree'd my opponent and he attempted to push me out the back door.
when he was side by side with me, I knew ONE of us was breaking out so I instictlivly hit the brakes and watched as the win light burned brightly in my lane!!!

Tiff WON round 1 as well...
and..
The #1 points guy went RED in round 1!!!
{he opened the door!!!}

On to round #2
I was early to the lanes and parked right behind Tiffany.

I got lined up with a road race motorcycle with no lights, no plates, etc.. and this is supposed to be a steet legal class?

Rather than protest..
I decided to do it "right" and send this guy to the spectator area.

Left Lane------Right Lane
Swinski Douglas
Dial in 7.20----9.45
RT .6472---------.5082!!!! {nailed him to the tree!!!}
60' 1.92----------2.16
330' 4.96---------6.21
7.37@102.3--------9.62@69.3 {hit the brakes..again} HAHA

Once again I tree'd the competition, and drug him to the other end.
At about 50' before the finish line, I looked... but couldn't see the motorcycle {no lights} in my mirror.

it took an extreme amount of concentration to FIND him in my mirror, once I FOUND him, I realized he wasn't catching me...
and I dipped into the brakes to protect my dial in.
WIN LIGHT.. LINCOLN LANE!!!!

On to round 3
{quarter finals!!!}
ODD Number of cars, someone gets the bye run...
NOT ME..
NOT TIFF...
Tiff drew a tough cookie, another one of the Lightning Pickups driven by Keith Sanderson.

I get lined up with a former track employee who's car is VERY WELL KNOW for running EXACTLY on his dial in.

I've watched many times.. his car running it's number.
BUT.. he's been known for cutting "late lights".

Last time we raced, I acknowledged his "late lights" and I "went soft on the tree".. he CUT A .502 light. SO.. NEVER am I going to give this guy a break on the tree..
EVER again..HAHA
On to the race

Left Lane-------Right Lane
Douglas---------Kelley
Dial in 9.50-----9.07
RT .567----------.678
60' 2.15--------2.03
330'6.14--------5.82
9.53@68{brakes} 9.07@75!!
Once again MR Kelley has RAN HIS NUMBER!

But, as noted he gave it away on the starting line.
If this guy EVER gets a handle on the tree!!!
We're ALL DOOMED!

Unfortunatley.. Tiff didn't WIN this round.
But she made it to the 1/4 finals, and that's NOT a bad appearance from ANY STANDPOINT!

Semi Final round.
We've had a bye run EACH round since round 1
Each time I LOSE the draw and dont win the bye.
That's OK...
because NOW..
we're in the semi finals...
and we're down to THREE CARS!
{another bye run}
The other two drivers have both already HAD a bye run thus making them ineligible.

TOM GET's THE BYE INTO THE FINAL ROUND!!!
{does a little happy dance}

Left Lane-----Right Lane
Douglas-------BYE
Dial in 9.45
RT-----.556
60'---2.15
330'---6.16
9.46 @ 74.89
.01 off my dial!!! {ready for the final round!!!}

Final round, I get to race the guy that beat Tiffany in the 1/4 final.
He cut a stellar Reaction time so I knew I had my work cut out for me.
GOTTA HIT THE TREE... anything else.. wont cut it!

Left Lane---------Right Lane
Sanderson --------Douglas
Dial in 7.79------9.45
Rt .606-----------.570
60' 1.75----------2.18
330 5.04----------6.18
7.84@86.09--------9.52@72.53
I managed a slight holeshot off the tree.
At the 330 mark I knew it was going to be close
At the finish line I had a .012 advantage as I hit the brakes and took the win light!!!!

Lincolns.. DEFEAT LIGHTNINGS!!!!
WHOO HOOO!
At the beginning of this race I was 80 points behind FIRST PLACE.

The first place guy redlit round 1 and only scored 10 points for the event.

At the end of the race, I had cut his lead to a mere THIRTY POINTS!

We have two events left, and we get 10 points for winning each round.
I have FIRST PLACE IN SIGHT!..but..

Can we manage to pull in front of the Lightning who has held on to first place ALL SEASON LONG!!

The only bad thing about this seasons points race is...
NO TROPHY for THIRD PLACE...

Last year they gave trophies down to THIRD PLACE.
This year..
first and second.. ONLY.

we are trying really hard to get "Tiff and I" into 1st and Second Place, so we can BOTH win a trophy this season.
Mathamatically it's possible.

If tiff and I bring our "A" game to the last two events, we just MIGHT be able to pull off a "hat trick".

If we can get some folks to show up and increase the car count, that also will help us... "get more points".

usually we only get 40 points per event, due to the amount of cars.
last friday night was a 50 point night and I got the win! and I REALLY NEEDED THOSE FITTY POINTS!

If you've EVER considered attending one of these races..
NOW IS THE TIME.
WE NEED YOU MORE THAN EVER NOW!

Each additonal pair of cars makes ANOTHER ROUND for us.
ANOTHER ROUND is 10 more points...

I'm 30 out of first
Tiff is 60 out of first
If I can get her to the winners circle next friday..
WE'VE got a SHOT AT THIS!!!!

Right now, I'm contemplating taking ON the #1 guy in ROUND 1 next week.
IF i can stop him there, that will open the door for tiffany.
If I CANT STOP HIM There and I lose..that pretty much ends my chances at first place.

MORE than winning first, I want to get Tiff and I into first and second place!!!!

That's the race update from the Crazy VIII's.

Come on out and watch the season GRIND to a CLOSE!!

Can the Lightnings HOLD the Lincolns OFF for two more races?
Can the Crazy VIII's STICK a LIGHTNING ROD into their TAILGATES?

Come out to the track and watch this battle GO DOWN TO THE WIRE!!!

I hope you enjoyed the lastest installment of the adventure of Crazy VIII's Racing!!!!

RE: Street Stock Winner 05-07-04

Congrats and good luck!

I'm going to be down in TX this week, flying down tomorrow to austin, going to ft. hood, and when i'm done with work at ft. hood on wed, i'm driving to sealy to visit a contractor on thursday. Any races in sealy during the week? or the ft. hood area? I'll have a rental car, should do good in brackets :).

RE: Street Stock Winner 05-07-04

Sleeper,
not any during the week any more..

But.. we WILL be back out there on friday night.
Gates open at 7, time trials at 7, eliminations begin at 9PM sharp.

The track is located at exit 713 {beckendorf rd}
it's on the east bound side of the freeway.

It'd be GREAT if you were still in town on friday night, we'd be honored if you made an appearance.

hope to see you out there.

Kindest regards
Tommy

CRUD....

that's too bad.

Well in the off chance you MISS YOUR FLIGHT! {hint hint}

We'll be out there...

have a safe trip and I hope you enjoy your short stay.

Kindest Regards
Tommy Douglas

RE: Street Stock Winner 05-07-04

I'm sure i'll be down there again sometime soon. One of our contractors, Stewart and Stevenson, is in Sealy, so i'll be sent there every now and then. One of these times we'll have to get together. Maybe next time i'll make it a saturday flight back and head to the strip with y'all on friday. Problem is, best case scenario would put me in a v6 mustang. They don't rent mark viii's any more, and even if they did the feds wouldn't pony up the $$. :(. Maybe if i have too much to do this week, i'll just postpone my return flight.

*LMAO*
I'm sorry I didnt know I was talkig in greek.

What "terms" didn't you understand?

Bye Run?
Bye runs are when an ODD number of cars come to the lanes.
They will often draw cards to see who wins the BYE run.
Bye runs are when ONE car makes a pass without an opponent in the other lane.

Breakout Run- Break out run is when a competitor runs "too fast" and breaks OUT of his/her ET bracket.
For instance, if I say my car will run 10.00 flat and I run a 9.99, then I LOSE because I BROKE OUT.
That is why, in a bracket race often you will see the winning car step on the brakes. To prevent a break out scenario.
Usually we "dial" our cars to such an extent that a break out isn't likely.

"Dial in"- dial in is what you SAY your car will run.
Based on YOUR dial in and your opponents dial in the track will create a HANDICAP start. Meaning the slower car get's a head start in the amount of the difference between his and his opponents dial in.

For instance...
If you say your car runs 10.00 flat and mine runs 9.00 then at the starting line YOU will get a FULL second head start.
Then..after waiting that full second, and watching YOU DRIVE AWAY.. I GET TO TRY AND CATCH you before the finish line..without going faster than 9.0
Did that make any sense.

It sounds confusing, but in actuality it's quite simple and the MOST FAIR type of drag racing there is.

If there are any "terms" that I used and overlooked in this post... Lemme know and I'll do my best to "splain".

Thanks for taking time to read...MY NOVELS.
and.. thanks for formulating a question!
I love it when people READ and then ASK QUESTIONS!

Kindest Regards
Tommy (aka XLRVIII)

Hey Automatic V-6 cars are PRETTY KILLER bracket cars.
Without excess power to spin the tires they are really consistant off the starting line.

If you get a chance.. MAKE IT HAPPEN.
We'd love to meet and greet with you one weekend.

RE: Street Stock Winner 05-07-04
