I currently have an old school Video Camera (the tape kind) and want to get some video off of it and on to the computer. I do not have a tv video card. Is there a way to get a converter that will transfer from rca's through a USB?

RE: Transfering Vidoe from Camera

You can do it one of three ways:

1) Install a capture card in your computer.
2) Buy an external unit that works via USB or Firewire.
3) Use a digital camcorder to convert your analog video.

The cheapest solution is a simple PCI capture card. The simplest is the external USB unit. The most expensive is the digital camcorder.

If you just want video for the web, anything out there will work fine. If you want to make DVDs with your captured video, you'll need something more capable with a high speed data transfer rate, like USB 2.0 or Firewire.

Here's a Circuit City link that might help:

RE: Transfering Video from Camera

I received the Plextor ConvertX for Christmas and am very happy with it. It's a little more expensive than the Dazzle like Last Mrk has, but I wanted the features it has. I transfered VHS tape thru it onto my hard drive via USB2 port. I sucessfully made DVD's from old home movies I transfered to VHS from 8mm a number of years ago. Worked great after the learning curve. Also made Video CD's using it. Got the Plextor 8X DVD burner for Christmas too....they make a great couple. Oh, Plextor has a good instruction manual too.
