Oh my. 1970 Hemi Roadrunner

RE: Oh my. 1970 Hemi Roadrunner

Its the hemi that makes it 1 of 16..not the bench seat. Alot of them did, although probably more common with a 383.

sure the Hemi makes it rare...but a Hemi, WITH a bench seat, and a COLUMN shift is what makes it rarer...

sure there were bench seat models...sure theire were column shift models...but RARE isnt just the Hemi...it's the combination of the three!

RE: Oh my. 1970 Hemi Roadrunner

Leo...isnt it sad? I mean, back then, American cars were not only Muscle cars, but they came with BIG motors in "not so" typical chassis.

The Monte's were awesome cars...big and roomy, yet still 2-doors, plenty of luxury mixed in with BIG MONSTEROUS ENGINES....

I really dig on the rare Mopars. I like the fact that back in "the day", you could order a car like a sanwitch...

Give me THIS body, THAT color, with THIS interior, and THAT motor/trans/rear end.

end result?

a B-body
with a Hemi
but NOT a 4-speed
and WITH a bench seat, not buckets, and a column shift.

BTW, check out the panther-pink Challenger 'vert in DuPont registry...1 of 1 ever built.....it is amazing...truely amazing.
440-6 pack car
dana 60
Hemi 4-speed

sure it is a funky color...but to know there was NEVER any other car exactly like it ever built.....Holy Moly.

Oh, it's on Page 216 of the Feb, 2006 Dupont
and on page 221, there is the ONLY "sassy grass green" with a white interior 1971 Hemi 'Cuda.

for info on "rarest Muscle cars"

here's a great site...

Don't we all! :) I'd have to have one helluva garage. Starting with a 1965 Buick Wildcat. :9

Reminds me of my old Monte Carlo. In 1971 I was walking down 11th ave. in Manhattan past a Chevy dealer. They had a gleaming red Monte in the window. I walked in and wrote a check (those were better times) as it was an SS with a 454. It too had a cloth bench seat and column gear selector. The car was a monster, wicked fast, and I was lucky to get 8 MPG (4 with the AC.)I kept it for three or four years then traded it for a Caddy.Oh if I only knew then what I know now! That SS Monte was one of six bult with a bench seat, total of 1100 SS Monte Carlos built in 1971/1972 x(

Not sure if this is the 'exact' car...but close enough to stir up some memories, huh?

RE: Oh my. 1970 Hemi Roadrunner

Oh man...they DID have the vinyl roof...and it was really interesting the way they laid the material on, sorrounded by trim...it didnt go all the way to the drip rails...it was more like what they refer to now as "1/2 roof"....

a friend of mine recently aquired a '70 Monte...it was a previous 'build up' about 4 years ago...BBC, with all sorts of trick engine internals...the owner let it sit about a year in a field with no hood, and no air cleaner...like a moron.

anyway, he traded it recently to the guy who built it for him...engine was full of water, body was so-so, and interior was a mess....

It still has potential...it'll be on craigslist in the next week or so...not saying this to pique your interest...just a point of discussion. I really like the way the vinyl roof lays out on it.

RE: Oh my. 1970 Hemi Roadrunner

Not really....bench seats and column shifters were standard. Whoever ordered it just ordered a base model with the top of the line engine. Back in the day I had a 69 with a 383 and buckets, and had 2 friends with 440s and both of them had bench seats. Hell, in 70 there were only 1,920 Superbirds made, clearly the top of the line Roadrunner, and only 135 of them had Hemis, and bucket seats were standard on them babies too. If you break it down by color and other options, you can make any car sound rare.

RE: Oh my. 1970 Hemi Roadrunner

The Monte's were not too roomy, especially the back seats, they were all hood. You could smuggle a family of illegals in the engine bay.
My high school physics teacher had a first gen Monte 454 SS, silver with black vinyl roof.
My great-grandmother had a 75, only the 350 2 barrel in it. It was gold with white interior and landau roof. She was very petit, so you would just see a car with a big hood and two hands on the wheel go down the street.

Sure am glad I still have my '69 Mustang fastback (sportsroof, per ford) 351w. My first car I drove in high school.
