Well......

RE: Well......

I got back a couple of hours ago. As usual it was a great time except for the traditional unrelenting rainstorm on Saturday. But a little rain didn't stop us from enjoying the weekend. Between the banquet and the show itself almost everyone won some award, even me. Against some stiff (however non-existant) competition, I managed to take 1st place in my class.

Thanks to Alexander and Leo and everyone who organized the event and helped out. We all have a bunch of fond memories to hold us until next year. Laughing and pointing at a certain someone and his tiny little red car. Frozen steaks and banning Alexander from ever again choosing the restaurant. Lots more fun stuff, but you had to be there.

RE: Well......

Yep, I'm, home.;(

What a blast!!! Three days of fun and ...(oops almost said 'sun') more fun! :D

We(the wife & I) arrived Friday shortly after noon. Found our way to the designated area of the show field and was in awe at the size of the event. We met many wonderful people heretofor that I myself had only known as a screen name on a message board. ;) Spent some time chatting and some time walking and gawking at the many fine displays.

Saturday was a wet suprise(wasn't the forecast at the beginning of the week calling for three days of sunshine this weekend?). ::roll:: We however made the best of it. After spending the morning getting cold and wet, we let the car show itself in the afternoon with the help of a small canopy (originally intended for use as a sun shade), while we sought shelter with new friends at the LOD tent. Trying to fill out the Fun Field ballots in the rain was a daunting task.

Today(Sunday) we enjoyed a much dryer day, although it was overcast. I was very suprised to arrive and learn the '93 had taken third place in our class(modified Gen1?). :D It was truly an experience to be a part of such a celebration of grand scale. Just being part of the winner's parade was overwhelming for this first-timer! :D

Thanks to all present for such a great time and I look forward to being part of next year's event. I'll be sure to post pics at a later post. For those who couldn't make it, all I can say is you really missed a grand time!!! :D

RE: Well......

It was great seeing all you guys again and meeting some of you for the first time. This was the smallest Carlisle I've attended yet :(. I think the Saturday rain scared many folks away. It is a great event and well worth while if you have the time and funds to attend.

RE: Well......

It rained all day on Saturday, but that did not dampen anyone’s spirit. I was under the weather also, but I still had a great time.

Given the weather, attendance was quite remarkable. Bill Miller, the co-founder of Carlisle Events, said the number of registrants was greater than last year.

There were some great displays. Only 100 Thunderbolts were built in the 1960's, but with the number there at Carlisle, you would think it was a common car.

The restaurant experience on Saturday generated a lot of laughs. We would be hard pressed to find a restaurant again that served hot shakes, cold soup and frozen steaks.

The Carlisle experience made me feel good about the club. This is what the club is all about - camaraderie, friendship and cars.

I very much doubt it was the rain.

RE: Well......

I had a grat time meeting some new poeple and hanging with the old ones.

Dispite all my "mishaps":
getting lost at 3 am on Fri morning (mapquest directions SUCK !),
almost getting hit head on @60-70 MPH by a drunkin driver ,
who then I had to rescue from her mangled wreck and then checking in to the hotel at 5am with a bloody shirt and my pants and sneakers full of mud (clay).
Then when my car wouldn't start on Sat morning,Jeeze what an adventure.(Thanks again to those who helped me).

I still had lots of fun with you guys and like I said it was great meeting all the newbies.

I only wish some of the regular crowd wouldv'e showed up.

All in all it was a blast, and can't wait for the next one.

RE: Well......

Yep. Sure did fly into Carlisle. Actually I flew into Pittsburgh and drove a rental Taurus into Carlisle. When I tried to make reservations into the “official” motel, they were all booked up. I got reservations for a motel in Harrisburg.

The rental car had GPS and it was good thing. It bailed me out several times. I was impressed. GPS navigation has come a long way since when I played with it

Carlisle was great. I was too wet and cold to spend more than a few hours looking at all the wet cars Saturday. Sunday was still cool, but not wet. I gave Driller my tickets to the car give away. I told him not to tell me if I’d won. I hope he did win. Have you ever looked under his hood? I was impressed. Very colorful. And hot roddy (roddy must not be a real word, as MS WORD just underlined both words in red.)

Somebody should monitor the local obits and see if that Saturday restaurant waitress committed ritual suicide after the LOD group left. The story is great. I laughed so hard they were looking for an oxygen bottle for me.

The steak at the banquet was very tender and surprisingly good. And I was surprised to come home with four of the raffle prizes. I think everyone had a great time, I know I did. There was a lot laughing.

I got home at 0735 this morning (that was a 0300 CDST) wake up call) to catch a 0645 EDT flight that was changed to 0611. The AA pilot was a woman and she put the peddle to the metal. We got to DFW 20 minutes early. I THINK I saw this same woman heading to Dallas in a BMW sporty car and she had that sucker wound up tight. Most impressive acceleration. I couldn’t keep up with her; I was driving HOTLNC. Well, she DID have a head start.
