Carlisle 2004 Poem

Work in progress but here goes anyway. Just looking forward to this year.

Carlisle 2004

Arrive at hotel, Thursday only to find
A bug covered car with dirt and grime
First things are first, I always say
So up to the room and put things away
Next on the list, get me a beer
Then down to the car and clean with a sneer
Things start to look better as to dinner I go
Some steak and shrimp a good meal, I think so
Then out to the lot for a walk and to find
Some fellow LOD members in just a short time
First just two and then more start to show up
I find Rene and her husband unloading their stuff
From that beautiful Mark and their Black Lightning truck
Soon friendships renewed and we wish each other luck
Luck for the show and to win a nice plaque
Carlisle each year I love coming back

Friday awake with friends ready to meet
So off to the show, man this is sweet
Once at the grounds registration begins
Then thru the gates and alright we are in
First find your place and then food for to find
A cold rainy day but all will be fine
Umbrellas and sweatshirts we huddle together
Trying to find comfort from this horrible weather
As we sit keeping warm we talk about cars
And how we all love to drive and keep ours
Later that day we all seem to decide
To head back and do something inside
Dinner we think would be a great idea
To Perkins we head at this time no fear
Once the orders are placed all seems to be well
A waitress appears what is this about prey tell
We seem to be out of the steak at this time
You have to be joking no porter or prime
Well as it appears they are frozen rock hard
Oh boy what a day the cooks a big tard
So for the manager we place a call
We then inform him how his staff dropped the ball
Some change their order others will wait
Then comes out nothing more than a room temp milkshake
We can laugh only so long
and then it is clear this choice was so wrong
The rest of the food was mediocre at best
Then back to the hotel for a good evenings rest

The morning of Saturday I awake with great hope
That yesterdays weather was just a big joke
Step out the door for the trip to the grounds
Breath a sigh of relief not a raindrop around
The day starts off in a typical way
Clean and shine for its judgment day
The public decides who’s car looks the best
Little did I know but I passed the test
We all walked around looking at Fords
Judging which ones should get the awards
Several of us were manning the tent
Selling LOD stuff making Alexander content
Recruiting members for our national club
And most of all spreading some of our Lincoln love
When the day was thru it was not near done
Back to the hotel for a meeting and fun
Dinner was great as many would tell
The awards looked really quite swell
Door prizes were given and a good time was had
Fellowship abounded and no body was mad
The meeting followed where things were discussed
A direction was take and the past left in the dust
A new LOD would rise and not fall
And the membership would benefit one and all

Sunday the last day of the show
We all met in the morning ready to go
We arrive and setup waiting to hear
Which of us placed in the top honors this year
Leo as usual took 1st place and best
Driller, Dave, Rene and all the rest
Took plaques and awards home this year
I placed for my Focus amid lots of jeers
Even though some Foci people hated my guts
I felt at home with all my fellow Lincoln nutz
As the parade started and we all said goodbye
I felt really sad and wanted to cry
Everyone is so nice and we all have fun
Even if I don’t drive a Lincoln this club gets it done
So I look forward to another great show in 2005
I just want to keep this great club alive

RE: Carlisle 2004 Poem

Bill, now you need to set it to music and sing it this year! :7

(For those of you who weren't at the infamous Port Clinton meet, Bill has an EXCELLENT voice)

RE: Carlisle 2004 Poem

That's cool, Bill! Are you planning to write a new poem, based on the events of the 2005 event?

I think you should bring a guitar, and sing it for us this year! ;)

RE: Carlisle 2004 Poem

Yes another poem will be created for 2005. I will be creating it as the events unfold this year so you all will have a part in the creative process. As far as singing this year we shall have to wait and see. If I sing it will not be the poem but possibly a selection from Les Miserable, Titanic, The Producers, 1776, and or one of my other favorite musicals. Oh and the guitar... I do not own one. So sorry no musical accumpniment. I used to play trumpet but that is not going to happen either so don't even think about it. I may read some original poetry to the group other than posted here if the concensus is in favor of it. Can't wait till Carlisle this is going to be a blast. I have several other ideas in the works but cannot reveal them at this time as they are not for certain yet. Rest assured all activities will be fun and interactive. The one that I will try to make happen is a nice group photo somewhere on the grounds. Even a possible group shot of all the cars if we can. Hope to see you all there.

RE: Carlisle 2004 Poem

oh, can you sing something from the musical Evita, maybe "Don't Cry For Me LOD" ;)

Don't cry for me LOD
The truth is I never left you
All through my SVT days
My mad existence
I kept my promise

Don't keep your distance
And as for the Focus, and as for fame
I never invited them in
Though it seemed to the world they were all I desired
They are illusions
They are not the solutions they promised to be
The answer was here all the time
I love you and hope you love me
Don't cry for me LOD

Chorus

Have I said too much?
There's nothing more I can think of to say to you.
But all you have to do is look at me to know
That every word is true
