Carlisle staying in Carlisle

RE: Carlisle staying in Carlisle

Good to hear that. We all knew it would not go anywhere. I hope to see you all there for the All Ford Nationals next year!

Now, if we can just get off that hill . . . .[/div]It'll be a matter of someone speaking to the Carlisle people and showing them that the numbers each year are good even though not enough pre-register. I think the BOD will need to be on top of this and really push.We also need to push a pre-registration campaign.

We pushed in 2006 and we'll push again!

BTW, the Mark VII's ~like~ the hill :)

Yeah... we LIKED the hill!!! It made us all feel like Julie Andrews
in the Sound of Music singing 'Hot Rod Lincoln'. Oh, wait, that was another dream. :p

Carlisle, The Hill, Communication, My Friends

Whoops. Drama alert! :)

There's just a few things that I need to share with everyone.

The Lincoln Mark VII Club would not be in existance if it were not for people like John and Leo and Jack and Bill and Russ. The Lincolns Of Distinction and the Lincoln Continental Owners Club among others, have been the examples that we have modeled our own Club after. When we are approached with questions concerning pre 1984 and post 1992 Lincolns, it's normally HERE that we direct people to.

In 2004, Lincolns enjoyed a prime spot on the Carlisle show field (almost dead center of the fair grounds). This spot was based on pre registrations and the LOD's long standing involvement with the event.

http://thelincolnmarkviiclub.org/events/carlisle/2004/images/2004carlisle-057t.jpg

In 2005, Lincolns enjoyed an even LARGER show area. Though the area was further away from the "center" of the fairgrounds, it was another large, contiguous location for Lincolns to enjoy. The New York based LSC Riders and others added so many additional cars (gate registrations) that there was a spill over of Lincolns to another area.

http://thelincolnmarkviiclub.org/events/carlisle/2005/images/2005carlisle-036t.jpg

On 08-26-2005, I started campaigns to increase the numbers of registrations of Lincoln Mark VIIs for the 2006 show. My goal was to allow for a split of the single Stock/Modified class of Lincoln Mark VIIs. I requested from the Carlisle staff, and received, the total registered numbers for Lincolns.

Around May 30th or June 1st, 2006 a Lincoln registrant arrived at the fairgrounds and found the tents and signs for Lincolns in THREE SEPARATE AREAS. No Lincoln area bordered on another Lincoln area (I am told). Carlisle staff scrambled with less than 48 hours before the event, to accomodate us all by having ALL THREE AREAS bordering each other.

http://thelincolnmarkviiclub.org/events/carlisle/2006/20060603/images/2006carlisle-063t.jpg

After three fabulous days of playing with cars, the show ended and I started planning for the 2007 show. In and open letter to the Carlisle staff
(http://www.carlisleforums.com/showpost.php?p=6719&postcount=10)
I thanked them for providing close-to-perfect accomodations. Me, the Members of The Lincoln Merk VII Club, and a few other Lincoln enthusiasts who enjoyed our tent, also told the staff that we LIKED our location and would like for our 2007 tent to be in the same place.

At no time before June 5, 2006, did any Board Member of the Lincoln Mark VII Club, request or show prefferrence to any location in the fairground for The Lincoln Mark VII Club or any other organization or entity. If anyone has read/heard/typed anything contrary to what you see in this post, then send them directly to me, John "OldSchool1" Dancy or DanL of Carlisle Productions or DaveP of Carlisle Productions.

For me, this hobby is all about the people and the cars and the friendships that come together for the same reasons. I'm willing to help my friends enjoy it as much as I do!

[div class="dcquote"][strong]Quote[/strong]...BTW, the Mark VII's ~like~ the hill :)[/div]OK well I wasn't going to bring this up in a public forum but since you did... A while back I noticed on the Mark VII site you actually REQUESTED the hill and had quite a bit of correspondence with the Carlisle people to insure that placement. Their response also explains a few things. http://www.thelincolnmarkviiclub.org/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=416

Personally I think that this is why all Lincolns wound up there since Carlisle was keeping them all together. If the LOD is going to push the Carlisle people for a better placement we certainly DO NOT need the Mark VII club working against the LOD in this matter. It would be a good idea, since you guys use this site to promote yours, that you go along with the LOD and the wishes of it's members in this matter. Requesting the hill will only confuse matters!

Correspondance about the hill happened after the 2006 show. Check out the link in your post.

RE: Just a little push ... and you'll be smilin'

Hi Leo! 2006 was my very first All Ford Nationals and with all of the aggrevation with my tranny going on the fritz on the '85 Mark, I was happier than a pig in slop to even make it there. The location of where my car would be shown never entered into my enthusiasm for just being there... and best of all, winning a trophy/plaque. That was the icing on the cake!

Since it WAS my first trip, can you elaborate a bit for me why you feel the hill isn't a good spot to be? The way I saw it was, we had our tents, we had Lincolns on three sides, we had a half a gazillion people visit our tent asking about or club and our cars ... I mean, the lower show field was for the Mustangs to shine this past year from what I saw. I just don't understand how placement on the show field is really that important. To me just being there was enough. <shrug> I hope you're well and I'm looking forward to seeing you and the rest of the LoD guys in June! :D

Jack

Again, my point is that at no time should you guys be thanking them for the hill! it should have been a complaint, not a thank you.

RE: Just a little push ... and you'll be smilin'

The lower field near the grandstand is nice because it is near the Grandstand and the vendor and modern toilet facilities. The hill is also nice because it give you a great view of the lower field. I think what Leo is trying to say is that the lower field is considered prime real estate in the arrangement of the clubs. When our attendance numbers were high, we were placed in a prime location. When our numbers went down, we were relegated to the hill.

I think the most important thing is that we increase our attendance at Carlisle, not necessarily to get the best spot, but to be able to get more judging categories. With more judging categories, there are more trophies. The Carlisle organizers look to see how many cars are preregistered and how many actually show up. They want 15 cars in each category but need at least 7. It is so important to get out members to preregister.

I think it would be nice if we could have some activities together with the LOD and the mark vii club. Possibly a banquet together or possibly some sort of contest or raffle.

I strongly agree! We spent twelve months increasing Mark VII pre registration for the 2006 show.

We also have scheduled and promoted over 50 events in 2006 that the Lincoln Mark VII Club attended (See: http://www.thelincolnmarkviiclub.org/events). We still have seven to go before New Year's Eve. So far, I think that we only have about 12 or so events planned for 2007, leaving MANY dates open for barbecue's, scenic cruises, car shows, and general "hey-let's-get-together-and-play-with-cars" days. We currently have a few coordinators that would be willing to set up an event with you.
