Went and got my boat today. Not new, but new to me... a '91 27' Fountain Fever.

Went out to do the sea trial. Luckily, it wasn't raining or snowing, but it was damn cold. It ran and drove fine, i didn't find any problems. Seems to vibrate a little getting on plane, but that's probably just the prop being a bit out of balance. Didn't make any funny noises, it warmed up okay, and the oil looked good when we got back. :) Then i towed it home. That kinda sucked, but i made it fine. Now it's out back getting snowed on.

I towed it with a '91 suburban, 1500 4x4, 350 TBI. 3rd gear all the way, 70-75 most of the time. I don't even want to calculate gas mileage. towed good, but it bounced a bit on some of our lower-quality road surfaces.

I took it out last night for the maiden voyage. The temp gauge never got past 110 or so, so i need to check for a thermostat (water's still damn cold, so it didn't surprise me). I also have a little leak in the transom where the hydraulic steering hoses go through, i'm going to have to caulk that up good. Other than that, she started fine, rode well, handled great, etc. Stereo is nice and loud but the crossover needs tweaking.

I was a little disappointed, i was hoping for 65 mph. With 3 people and 3/4 of a tank of fuel, i only got 60 out of it. Maybe with a better prop and less people i can get 65.

What? Only 60 mph?! Sure looks a lot faster than that! ;)

Water is pretty hard at 65 mph, I know that. :B

What it lacks in top end it makes up in the midrange. When we were going 35, and i went to WOT, the boat just jumped. My passengers had to hang on }(

Mmmm..purdy. What motor does it have in it?

I need to get a boat. I'm sick of using my dad's all the time.
