I ended up removing the brake booster and firewall insulation pad, and am happy I did. I found some rust under there that needed Morted, and painted.

Here is the first shot of the new paint. It's a 2005 Mazda color "Blazing Copper". I know I don't have a hole for the intake, but I am building an aluminum intake tube to pull air from the stock location, and will cut a new hole when it's done. There is less than a cup of body filler in that repair panel. It is 18 gauge steel TIG'd to the stock steel.

Thats about it for now. I should have the rest of the body work done in a couple of weeks, and have it painted a couple of days after that. I'm laying 8 coats of clear on top of 4 coats of base. Once it's done, it's going in to storage for 1 month to let the clear harden completly. Then wet sanded with 2000, 2500, and 3000 in progressive stages, then polished. this paint is gonna be 8 miles deep. ;)

Hope you like the color.

RE: My 95's repaint.

Wow, that is a lot of work, it is looking good so far. I can't wait to see what it looks like when it is done. Keep us posted.

RE: My 95's repaint.

That car has got to be in contention for the most worked on Mark VIII award. :+

That is truly amazing work. Great attention to detail. You will be one very proud owner and driver.
:)

RE: My 95's repaint.

Wow, you guys have done a really nice job on that repaint. Love the way the engine looks like now.

RE: My 95's repaint.

I have rarely admitted it, but that "tone" of color has always captivated my attention. I always said "I would love to see a Copper metallic Mark VIII"...knowing what a superb job Lincoln did with some of their colors through the car's Mark VIII history(flip-flops, tri-coats, pearlescents, etc), I KNEW it would look amazing on the Gen 1 body style.

I can already tell I will be jealous...cant WAIT to see the end resut. It already looks so good, some may call "photo shopped"...

my compliments on your choice. you are doing alot of things many of us wish we could do.

I'm glad someone is taking care of that car. Body work is the only thing that car needed to make me keep it.

Post more pics whenever you get a chance.

RE: My 95's repaint.

Great work! Thanks for the pics detailing it all. Can't wait to see when it's done.

Thanks for the comments man. I have the engine dropped in now, and just got all of the detail pieces painted and cleared. I doubled the hardener ratios to get a little bit more durable finish for underhood uses. This color os gonna RAWK with the set of 18's I have comming for it. Stay tuned

Jeremi, I told ya I was gonna take care of it, it's just a little harder than I thought it would be. Michigan winters must be HELL compared to down here as Iv'e been eating rust under the car for 2 months now. I took the rear suspension out of it, and scraped ALL of the rust out of everywhere, and then Morted it, and undercoated EVERYTHING. I'm doing the same thing with the front end now.

I have a feeling that next time you see it, your jaw is gonna drop. Thanks for giving me the chance to start with an already well modded car.

*goes back to work, with renewed energuy from the kind comments*

Here ya go.....I have ALOT left to do on it now. Now that I got it together, I have decided I need to have the x-overtube powdercoated silver like the rest of the engine. The alternator and the tube seem to be overkill to me, what do you guys think? The wire covers are going to body color also. I also have an aluminum intake tube on the way from dallas mustang. I'm just not happy with the way it looks right now. I need some 10.5 MM black wires to set it off (the red does'nt look right to me.)

Any sugesstions from you guys? I'd be willing to listen. Anyway, here are the most current pics....(As of 07/22/05).

RE: My 95's repaint.

Looks awsome. The only thing I would change would be to make the crossover pipe silver. I think the rest looks great. I like the alternator like it is.

I disagree. I like the crossovertube color matched.

IMHO, if it were me I would get the polished alternator.

The aluminum intake tube will look good.

The power distribution box cover needs painted.

You're right, the red wires don't cut it. For contrast, I would go with the FMS blue spark plug wires.

Then you need an Odyssey dry cell battery with the bling bling battery holder and some better battery terminals. ;)

Oh, and paint the spark plug covers or get the chromed show covers for the Cobra!

RE: My 95's repaint.

I decided to go with a set of taylor 10.5 MM Black wires. Where did you get that battery holder? It's pretty bad looking.

That is a PC1200LMJT Odyssey DryCell Battery and the corresponding Odyssey Billet Battery Mount from Summit. Note the "L" designates the left hand positive battery model.

I believe the same is available for the more common Optima line of batteries.

RE: My 95's repaint.

Beautiful paint, amazing workmanship....you my friend have personally renewed my love for these cars. And it didn't even need renewing.

The only think that I would do different if it were my car is to take the paint off the iac solenoid, the black plug wires like you have already ordered, and maybe no paint on the throttle body...I'd probablly go with a polished bbk piece instead.

But keep up the good work and quality pics...so those of us without the time or money can keep dreaming.

RE: My 95's repaint.

Yeah we wanna see the outside too! That engine compartment rocks. :)Very nice job. Keep us posted on your intake setup too. What you end up going with aluminum or whatever from stock fender hole forward. I need to finish mine from hole forward to get the air filter located somewhere outside the engine compartment or leave it there and box it and let the tube do the wandering out to the front.

RE: My 95's repaint.

Hey guys......

Sorry for the long delay in updates. Iv'e been a little busy with my other 2 marks, and work piled up on top of it. I towed the ole girl out to the shop that I work at. It's the biggest collision center in our area, complete from 3 frame racks, and 2 brand new devilbiss paint booths. anyway, here are some pics to getcha by.

I'm shooting to have this done in time to haul it out to Carslile, along with my 98, and HOPEFULLY the 94. I'm removing the grey interior, and swapping it out for black from a parts car I purchased a week ago.

Take care guys, i'll post more as they come along.
