Cleaned the Crown Vic today and took some photos!

I have named her Stealth as most cops don't even give her a second look. I think she looks great now that she is all fixed after the deer accident. Yes I also used black electrical tape to blackout the vertical bars between the horizontals. I will soon paint the grill body color as I think it will look better.

Looks great. Dealer did a very good job fixing that damage. Not that it was all that bad to begin with but still. Glad to see the car in one nice piece again. Out of curiousity how does you gas mileage compare between the Focus the Mark (if you remember) and the Vic.

RE: Cleaned the Crown Vic today and took some photos!

Gas mileage is better than the Focus but a little worse than the Mark VIII. I get about 15 city and about 24 highway. It should improve when I add the dual exhaust and the rear belly pan. The rear bumper has so much space under it it acts like a drag shoot at highway speed so Dennis Reinhart offers a bellypan to cover that area. Also looking at a ported upper plenum which should improve gas mileage a little as well. I too was very impressed with repair work.

You should de-chrome it and put some strobes in. Then the cops will REALLY leave you alone. }(

Don't forget black steel wheels ... it's a must !

Looks great Bill !

Already searching for steelies and the Police black honeycomb grill. Actually the salvage yards have these and are more than happy to get rid of all police parts. Also been looking for a good complete rear axle from a police crown vic with the 3.27 locking diff. Direct bolt in too.

RE: Cleaned the Crown Vic today and took some photos!

Bill be careful with the police center sections. You know they will have a TON of very HARD miles on them. Also the TL will most likely have to be rebuilt since they don't last very long. I would recommend just getting the rear end built. It is really not that expensive but you get a ton of piece of mind and new parts. Your car is pretty darn close to new so I wouldn't want to mess with abused car parts if I were you.

RE: Cleaned the Crown Vic today and took some photos!

I'd just put aftermarket gears and a used, rebuilt trac-lock in the housing that's in there. It probably won't cost you any more than buying a complete axle and swapping it out, and you can get some better gears than 3.27's. At least 3.55's, if not 3.73's or 4.10's. Gears are about $190, add another $150 for the trac-lock and rebuild kit, and a few hundred to set it up, and you'll be in much better shape than with a used cop axle.

But yea, lose all the chrome and go with the steel wheels.

RE: Cleaned the Crown Vic today and took some photos!

Thanks for the tip on the gears and the traction lock. I do want to loose the chrome but that will take time as the trim on the back only comes with the tail lights and the center section. Lights are about $70 each and the center section is about $200 or so. The black steelies are one of my 1st mods that I plan. I should then be able to sell the current rims and make some profit on the swap. Yep I think gear wise I will go with either 3.55 or 3.73 but 4.10 would be a little too much without changing the tailshaft on the trans and also the drive shaft. 3.73 should be just fine with the current setup.

3.73s will make that car a different animal! }(

RE: Cleaned the Crown Vic today and took some photos!

I have no doubt that will change the whole attitude of the car. A locking 3.73 should get me off the line quicker thus lowerin my 1/4 mile times. Also should help to chirp the tires when I take the TC off. Can't wait but that will probably not happen till August or so. Looks like its Carlisle debut will have to be in 2008 unless something changes my financial situation before now and then.
