I hate to do this, but I believe the mark has served me long enough. I want to see how much money I can get for my car let me know if you guys think this is a reasonable amount.

Current stats.
1996 Mark VIII base.
Opal Opalescent.
125k miles.
40k miles on a new ford tranny rebuilt installed in 03. Ran on Mercon V and with a tranny cooler since the tranny install.
Mods to the car.
HIDs (istalled in 2004)
18 inch rims.
245/45/18 Continental Extreme Contact up front
275/40/18 bridgestone run flats out back
1 3/8 rear sway bar.
13 inch Cobra Calipers and Rotors up front.
newer front shocks.
Old reinhart chip for crisp shifts.
10k miles on rear shocks and rear shock mounts.
Car is located in Hayward CA, and it was garaged most of its life.

The good:
Complete Service History from when I owned the car (DEC 2000 55k miles until now) too much to list here.
Mobil 1, and Motorcraft filter 5w30 every 5k miles.
The engine and Transmission are in VERY good shape Tranny is 9/10 engine is 8/10 (slightly rougher idle).
The car looks really good, the paint is very shiny.
The interior looks very good as well, no tears on the leather, minor wear only.
Car will be sold with a Sony headunit capable of playing MP3s, 4 Infiniti kappa speakers and an Infiniti amp.
The air ride system works flawlessly.
Tires should have above 7/32 on all 4.
Tranny temp gauge

The bad:
Car has a salvage title
Car has a rougher ride that is due to the larger wheels, run flats and the sway bar.
There is a vibration when braking.
The rear bumper has peeling paint.
There is a 1-inch tear in the front right door armrest.

For me to be satisfied completely I would like to get $4500. If anyone is interested post here. Also all comments are welcome.
I am also considering parting the car out, getting the stock wheels back, stock brakes and stock lights and selling it for 3k. And all the parts separate.

RE: Possible Sale of my 96. Sparking some interest.

Don't do it!.So you might get $4,000....then what? is that gonna be a down payment on a new car for 5 years? thats = $80 a month ($4,000 x .0200) that is a typical rate factor for a 5 year lease.

Your car looks great still, and I am always amazed when I see pics of it.Keep it and use it for your daily driver....your not gonna find anything better to replace it as a daily driver....unless there are problems.

Keep it! Keep it!! Keep it!!! xo

lol...sorry...didn't mean to yell ;) It is a well kept car, shame to see it go for a minimal amount......just my opinion.

RE: Possible Sale of my 96. Sparking some interest.

I agree. Keep it until it won't go no more. Then scrap it. This car will make you money as long as it runs.

RE: Possible Sale of my 96. Sparking some interest.

Well there are no problems with the car as of yet (everything works AC, Lights, seats). But to me it has become to old to drive. I am trying to see if someone is willing to pay the 4500 that I am asking, which I believe is a VERY fair price. And I want to get additional input. In terms of finding something better, it has been a very tough time. But I am looking for something 01 and up.

RE: Possible Sale of my 96. Sparking some interest.

Keep it and keep saving for that Vette you want. It is nice having a newer car but be patient.

RE: Possible Sale of my 96. Sparking some interest.

My wife just bought an '02 Conti. It uses the same motor as HOTLNC. But for the life of me, I'd rather drive HOTLNC then her "new" car. The only thing her car has than mine does not is a built in garage door opener.

I'm not missing that a bit.

RE: Possible Sale of my 96. Sparking some interest.

Hehe. Yea I see what you guys are saying. But I want to get a car that has less than 60k miles on it, about the same speed as a mark or faster and certainly newer. I have had my mark for some time now I think I want an upgrade. I would keep it as a daily driver but the reliability of older cars is scarrying me and I don't want to spend my weekends working on the car.

RE: Possible Sale of my 96. Sparking some interest.

Be like me and drive old cars until you save up enough cash to buy a bad ass car.

RE: Possible Sale of my 96. Sparking some interest.

I got a new toy, but replacing will have to wait.

RE: Possible Sale of my 96. Sparking some interest.

03+ 5 series Bimmer
or
01 740i Sport
or
02,03 Lexus GS430
Chrysler 300 SRT 8 if I can get a good deal.

I got something else for the winter and fun for now, a replacement for the mark will come some time after summer 06.

RE: Possible Sale of my 96. Sparking some interest.

Hey Max,

It'd cost me almost that for the wheels, tires and HIDs over here! I'd buy it now!

That is my point I think I had it up at a good price, but if I can't even get just that, than I'd rather keep it. People laugh everytime I tell them my car is worth 4k, they can't believe it.

If it were around me for that price... ::roll::

RE: Possible Sale of my 96. Sparking some interest.

Wow, Super clean car. This one should of been in the calendar with that 3/4 shot facing away. Very nice.
State Farm is giving me hell about fixing the Hurricane exterior paint damage and water damage to mine. They say its only worth 3,800.00 for total out price, and then car gets a salvage title. Also i wouldnt be able to buy back the car and they would keep it to auction it off. I told them to burn their estimate, i had over 7,500.00 in mods alone. I will fix the damage out of my own pocket. Why do we buy and pay insurance? The crooks. x(

I'd buy it if you were coming to the Midwest any time soon... but I just can't spend that much AND a plane ticket to California.

RE: Possible Sale of my 96. Sparking some interest.

Well, since this thread is still alive, I fixed the "semi-rough" idle by replacing the 2 step colder plugs to the original Platinum 764s. Now the engine should be a 9/10, smooth idle, doesn't have any of the typical oil leaks around the spark plugs, no oil consumption. I also performed a transmission service (after 25k miles) the pan was squeeky clean with only minimal build up on the magnet, that tranny cooler rocks, I felt ashamed pooring that good fluid out. I also put the stock rear sway bar on and the ride is no longer rough. The car will probably get new tires (damn 140 treadwear rating on the rears) and a complete suspention rebuild this summer, I know it is overkill but that is just the way I treat it. I currently gave the car to my dad after selling his beloved 93 Cougar, so I know this thing rarely even sees 3k rpms now.
I think I'll post again once the summer comes around, see if anyone still wants it.

Out of curiosity, I couldn't resist checking...

You recently received a quote from us regarding the shipment of your vehicle:

Not as bad as one would think. ::roll::

Checked www.southwest.com and found a fare as low as $155 with taxes/fees.

Honey, hide the checkbook!

RE: Possible Sale of my 96. Sparking some interest.

Hehehehe... My dad is starting to like the Mark, so I might have to literally pull this one out of his hands. I'll probably keep it through the summer and we'll see what else comes around, he did love his Crown Vic, but my mom needed a car with a large trunk  for her new job so she snatched it away from him. So I will most likely replace it with CV when the time for selling it comes around. Don't worry it'll be in good hands for now.

RE: Possible Sale of my 96. Sparking some interest.

Your car is worth every cent of $4500, and then some IMHO. I am looking at getting another Mark this Summer. I hope you still have it...
