FWIW, new lenses retail for over $500 and wholesale cost is about $360. Now in my marketing opinion, a 'generic'(a.k.a. reproduction) item should be able to be had for less than 1/2 wholesale. That puts the mark at $180 per set. Given the alternatives, I think it would sell.

The next time I'm in the storage shed, I'll have to check if I still have one old headlamp. I'd be game to donate it to the cause.

ARGGH I bought a set of NOS headlamps non HID about 8 months ago. I think you have a very fair price and if they are better than the stockers, count me in for ordering a set with corner lamps in the future.
As we all know, the Mark's internal reflective coatings burn off with time even with stock bulbs which im running.

P.S Can you do this with 1998 GM 1500 truck headlamps? As mine are yellowing quick.

Dude...there are a lot of folks here, including myself, who would gladly fork that kind of money over for a new set.

The cheapest I bought a new one for was $211. If you price them at $100 each, everyone here will still eat them up.

Now I've gone and probably made everyone here mad at me... ::uh::

I agree. You can charge $100 a piece and still have people pounding your door down. If making a decent profit allows these lights to exist and grow in popularity, then so be it.

So let's all pull together on this and can ANYONE find or send me a set of bad ones? I can order some from the recyclers I use but I hate spending $50 plus shipping on a set when there are THOUSANDS that have been discarded.

Please keep this thread anyone who is about to replace headlights.....

RE: Faded/Grey headlights needed - help me reproduce them!

I have sold all of my old ones...considering the options out there, many owners will do the same IF they just bought new ones.

I got two new housings for Christmas...I sold my old ones to a friend...I took one of HIS old ones, and I am selling it now...they are just too darn valuable to throw away if they still work, give off an 'acceptable" amount of light(hi-beams on).

RE: Faded/Grey headlights needed - help me reproduce them!

IMHO i would like to see a housing with clear plastic (like the 96'LSC)but accept non hid hardware. I'm telling you clear lens not a difused lens for me if possible..

Faded/Grey headlights needed - help me reproduce them!

Hi everyone,

I need SEVERAL sets of bad headlamps - Here's the deal:

Buying a '94 Mark VIII last Monday and owning a beautiful 1992 Dodge Caravan AWD has brought to a head a business opportunity I'd been noodling on for a couple of years.

I'm a parts wholesaler and broker. I used to be a reliability and quality engineer for Ford in the Southern Region during the 80s and 90s. I've made a few calls and called in a few favors.

Here's the deal:

1. All headlights on most non-GM cars built in the USA (including even Toyotas and Mazda/Escort type US built imports) were produced by essentially one manufacturer. It is a well known secret that the curing and formulation of the lexan face of these molded headlamps was not properly executed - and virtually ALL the headlamps sooner or later begin to internally "craze" and are vulnerable to contamination etc because the hardened lexan lens was not properly formulated or cured.

2. Although a lot of reproduction "crash parts" are available, they don't address, for example, the Mark VIII because they are produced by high-volume manufacturers using mostly original molds. Not enough money in our headlamps.

3. I've got friends in China who interface with smaller shops that produce molded plastics. I'm currently in communication with them to quote replacement headlamps for our 1st gen 8's and several other models of car not currently serviced.

Here is a sample of their products:

I need SEVERAL sets of bad headlamps to send to the three mfgs I have bidding for the job. PLEASE! If this starts to work out I promise a set of new lamps at cost. I need headlamps, but also will later need parking lamp sets.

My address:

Impossible Auto Parts
2816 Palisade Drive
Fort Wayne, IN 46806

My pricing target is to create lamps that retail between $65 and $85 each - or sell by the set for around $125. This is aggressive but I believe possible. All original mounts and bulbs will fit - it is identical except for the Ford brand name - which is slightly modified to avoid copyright infringement as is common practice.

Also, what is your opinion? Priced too high? Too low? Let me know.

I just sold one, used, in pretty good shape, for $68.00 in a "buy it now" auction...even the old, used ones are far too valuable to 'donate'. sorry.
