Hi Ryan
Seen your post and had to ask where you found a carb intake for the 4.6s. I've heard that such a thing was available but could never find one. Thanks. Good luck in your search for a motor.

you would need new heads.

if you're in california, or any state with commiefornia emissions standards, your car will never pass emissions with that intake installed.

for 95+% of people, a carb on a mark 8 makes no sense. If you're one of the other few percent, you already know...

Im in the military so i dont plan on being in ca to long. Besides if you go down the street to the really um how do say sleazy part of town there is a place that will pass any car, he$% i had a true dual crown vic w/ no cross over or h pipe, two instead of 4 cats, it did sound loud but sucked, anyway they said on paper that it was unmolested and that it was a single exhaust. so what would have to change bout the heads, those c heads that aint no better that ours. Id love to get my hands on a cobra intake W/ALL PARTS/AND LIST, and how to do it but they are hard to find and i dont what to pay like 400 and up for it and still have to get parts. You did it though right? did you love it, was it nite and day? I dont have any mods but looking for the right one for the first one seat of the pants, just cant make up my mind.

Yea, for the carb intake you'd need '99-up heads. C heads if you will. Better than ours stock, not better if you're comparing ported to ported. Either way, not enough difference to make it worth a swap.

I picked up a lot of MPH with a cobra intake on my '97. It's not hard to do. On a '97-'98, all you need is the upper and lower intake and new gaskets. Modify the bracket for the throttle and you can make it work. Stock fuel rails work but the Cobra ones are recommended (stock ones put the shrader valve under the EGR). The intake tube can be cut and molested to make it work, but a cobra intake tube is a much better fit. The cobra intake tube isn't perfect, though, it still rubs on the strut tower, but it works. If you want to hook up the EGR you'll need to modify that line too.

That looks ugly for some reason...too much crap everywhere or something. Can't point it out, it just looks funny. :confused-red:

LOL... Jeremi always gave me crap about the hose to the IAC motor that loops around the way it does. There is a cobra-specific one that looks better, but that one worked and I never got around to getting the right one. The car also could have used some kind of shielding around the air filter and some conduit around the stereo wires.

you can see what I mean about how the cobra intake tube fits. See how it's hits the passenger side strut tower, then the bellows part is bent the other way?

Could you run that tube under the intake?

I do like that front mounted TB FI intake from sullivan, that thing looks awesome, oh man now I'm having decisions problems...

Wow, you're right, that is a pretty narly angle after the MAF sensor. Put the crinkles(lol) into play and you're back to stock intake performance, haha.

not quite stock performance. With the intake and a tune I picked up 5 mph at the strip. That car ran 15 flat at 100 mph before I put the gears, converter, and headers on. That's screaming on the top end. With the rest of the mods it ran 13.9@100.

But yes, there was room for improvement. There was probably 2 tenths left on the table from small things like that intake tube. I was addressing them one by one when I bought a boat and ran out of money, then sold the car.

on a gen 2, it's totally worth the trouble.

on a gen 1, not so much. not as much gain because the gen 1 has a much better intake.
