Driver Door Problem

Hey all, let me see if I can explain this. When I'm done driving, and I open the driver door, the dome light does not come on. Or when you turn off the engine, the radio stays on until a door is opened, then the radio turns off and the lights come on. Well that only works on the passenger side and not the drivers side. Any ideas on how to fix this?

RE: Driver Door Problem

???????

What year and model car are you talking about?

If it is a Mark VIII, there's huge differences between GenI and GenII door open interior lighting triggers.

GenI uses door jamb push switches.
GenII uses door ajar switches built into the latches sending signals to a Lighting Control Module.

RE: Driver Door Problem

OK.

'93-'96s have a plunger type switch on the front jamb of the doors and often the plunger sticks in. Usually, spraying it with WD-40 will free it up.

'97&'98's use an ajar switch inside the door latch that also may stick. It usually sticks in the open position, keeping the "Door Ajar " warning and the interior lights on. On the rare occasion, it will stick in the closed position. Spraying a good amount of WD-40 into the latch where it catches the striker may solve your problem.

Sometimes, the connector to the switch comes unplugged, but let's not talk about going inside the door just yet.

One last thing: does opening the driver's door trigger the "Door Ajar" warning but not turn on the interior lights? I hope the answer is no, because that opens a network can of worms we'd rather not get into!
