Maybe it is time for a hybrid?!

So I just checked my CC (credit card) statement and I added up all my gas purchases for giggles. I use my CC as a primary payment method and I purchase everything with it. So here is the shocker.

I spent $535.49 on gas last month!! That is crazy. This represents about 1/2 of my purchases every month! 50% of the money I spend goes to gas?! Wow... We're currently at $3.39 to $3.59 per gallon for premium.

I have to say I did make a 800 mile road trip this month but I usually spend at least 300-400 on gas every month. Just as a quick FYI my commute to work is 14 miles one way. I know people that commute 50-80miles to work... must be very tough on their budgets.

WOW $3.59 for premium! Can't wait for the "summer" gas to get here so we can have those prices! I just filled up at $2.79 for premium out here in CT.

What octane rating do you guys have out there? I got Shell 93 here and paid $47.50 for a full(and I mean 17.5 gals full!) tank.

We only got 91 out here. And it has been dyno proven to give us less power than the 93 you guys use.

Do the math. The hybrid doesn't work, and IMHO is a scam on the consumers. When you compare the price premium against a like competitor, it takes far too long to payback. Even comparing to the mileage of an average Mark VIII, I doubt it could compare favorably when all things are considered.

Yep, I am just venting due to the amount I spent on gas. I wouldn't recoup a hybrid for some time. But if prices top $4 it becomes a viable option. And we're pretty darn close.

The Tesla is sick! They did a news story on Frontline about the Hybrids and how the EPA infated the average MPG by an average of 10-15mpg! You thought you'd get 45mpg on your Ford Hybrid SUV....try 30mpg...huge difference!

Did you mean to say: the Tesla is Slick?

The Tesla is a fully electric sporty car. If I lived in California and had 100K laying around, I'd get one.

If I had 100K laying around, Lexus has a hybrid out with some pretty impressive performance. But then again, if I had a 100K, I don't think I'd be worried about gas mileage. :p

Sorry...I needed a new short block...and S/C...and trans....and a paint job....and after that I went to a strip club and its all a blur!!!

I think I have a 10 left over for ya! lol

Did you mean to say: the Tesla is Slick?

Nope....SICK! Its a young person's term for BAD A**! :)

I read/watched all about the Telsas....super cool, and yes, I'd probably get one too....than and the Ariel Atom. 0-60 in 2.9 secs...300hp!

Way to go take this thread off topic guys lol.

Hybrids are relatively attractive modes of transportations out here due to our outrageous gas prices and high traffic congestion.

Too bad that hybrids cost more upfront, and have higher maintenance costs that more than offset any savings in fuel. Try pricing out a battery pack for one of those things.

Until we see major advancements in energy storage, electric hybrids will not be an economical alternative to typical gas powered vehicles. There are certain niche applications where some sort of hybrid system is appropriate, but one needs to take into account the duty cycle of the vehicle and all of the economic factors. Hybrid hydraulic garbage trucks are a good example. Hydraulic hybrids are not good for typical passenger duty, but for the stop and go duty cycle of a typical garbage truck, along with the size of the vehicle, hybrid hydraulic systems make sense for the right price.

Gas is really damn high out there... once again, i'm glad I don't live in California.

Oh, you think you have it bad, i'm figuring it'll cost me $700 a month in fuel over the summer, and that's significantly curbing boat use. I could easily burn $200 in fuel per weekend in the boat, but i'm limiting my use and not running WOT as often as i'd like to keep the cost down. I'm only budgeting $100 per weekend in boat fuel.

These gas prices are a real kick in the nuts. They're preventing me from taking trips that i'd really like to take. And most of the reason for the cost is speculation... there is no supply shortage. There's a shortage in refining capacity, but that's the tree-huggers fault.

On a typical month when I'm not working, I go through roughly $1300 in fuel. Granted, it's a diesel pick-up truck, but still. And the sad part is, I usually fill up 4 or 5 times. 90 Gallons per fill-up.

I'll stick to my internal combustion engines. Hybrids, IMHO are still the car version of the little retarded children you just point at and feel truly sorry for.
