Air Conditioning system

After the kingpin on the lower control arm popped loose on the highway at 60 miles per hour, my lincoln sat for 3 weeks while I fixed all of the damage. After getting her back on the road, when I press max a/c the cold air only flows through the defrost section of the system. I could use some advice before I start replacing all kinds of stuff.

Thank You,

You have a vacuum leak. The default air flow for the EATC is defrost.

Here are the vacuum diagrams for a '93...

I hope this helps.

Thanks Driller,

That brings alot of light to my situation. I belive that one of my lines were severed when my suspension collapsed. I will fix it and with the schematic that you sent me, I don't think that it will be that big of a problem to solve.

Thank you,

A/C compressor

A/C compressor

I've been having a problem with my cooling fan not coming on and was told turning the A/C on would turn the fan on also. When I turn the A/C on to max, I don't feel a change in engine rpm. I opened the hood and did not see the compressor clutch turning. Since the fan does not come on and the compressor clutch isn't turning, is it safe to assume I have a VCRM problem? I've seen on-line A1 Cardone sells remanufactured VCRM's. If they can be repaired, is there a schematic available? I could then have someone trouble shoot it where I work and have the necessary components installed.

As far as I know, the VCRM is a sealed solid-state device. Best option would be a local junkyard.

I called the Lincoln dealer in my neighborhood and got a price and the OE P/N...
$255 +tax, P/N F4LZ12B577AA.
I checked on-line and can get it new for about $180.00 from National Auto Parts Distributors.
A1 Cardone remanufactures them and their P/N is 73-70006. I contacted Cardone, gave them the number I got directly from the dealer, and they said the numbers were a match.
I called Auto Zone, one of their distributors, and gave them the P/N and the price is $120.99 plus tax.
To be honest with you Driller, where I live, Long Island, it's difficult to find used parts for the Mark VIII. It's almost as if these cars don't want to die and no parts are available!

I understand. Mark VIIIs around here are scarce, especially in the junkyards.

Actually $120 would not be a bad price to pay for a known working unit. Good detective work. :wink2-green

You can also contact Jamie....he dismantles these cars and he may have a good one for a decent price!
