TPS install gen 2

Is there anything special you need to do when installing a new TPS on a gen 2? Looks pretty straight forward...

If its a Phillips screw than no...but if it looks like a torx bit(star) than you'll need what they call a "Tamper Proof Torx" bit because of the little "nipple" in the middle of the star....you're local parts store will have it.

Is there any adjustment to the actual new TPS that needs to be made or you just take off the old one and put the new one in and that's it?

Make sure when you install it, use car to notice how the little prongs are supposed to operate on the TB, if you install it wrong you won't be able to open the throttle.

You'll see once you take it off, and you can set it in place and turn the throttle with your hand to see if it works.

I had a HECK of a time getting mine off. I think some 300 pound guy named Louie works at Ford and puts them on. Both my Mark and Aviator TB has those screws on INCREDIBLY tight.

I am suspicious that the converter unlocking and locking when going down hill maybe because of the TPS. If that doesn't work I will try the TCC solenoid and then MLPS.

If you have the conical air filter installed... it will cause the converter to do that. I experienced this in my 1996...

If I just barely tap the brake it will still continue doing it unless I brake really hard and bring the rpm down that way. The surging happens when cruisin with no foot on the accelerator when the RPMs go around 1500rpm and below. If I turn off overdrive, and bring up the rpms that way it will go away also. And it doesn't really happen at low speeds below 50mph, it's mostly a freeway thing when im taking an exit for example.

I thought the converter would unlock tapping the brake. Mine does.

You may be feeling the PCM engine braking like J and I were discussing in another thread that got sidetracked.

Exactly........if you think the TPS is going to fix that, you're wrong :D

Remember in that other thread I said "Serge was just asking about this and I thought it was just my stall converter causing it"

Don't worry about it Serge.....you probably never noticed it until you got the exhaust work done.
