i have been dealing with a mild tooth ache for a few days but yesterday it kicked in like bruce lee on crack. it was so bad i had to take a trip to the local dental E.R and they took x rays. i have an absessed tooth and they want to rip it out and will have to remove some jaw bone also because its infected. the whole left side of my face is swollen now i dont even look like me. my left eye is starting to close from the puffyness. im on penycillin(spelling) and hydrocordone's but this sucks so bad i want it gone i cant believe the pain. they want to remove 4 teeth for a price of $940 bucks. man o man.

ouch!!! Man don't let things get this bad, I say with teeth, if they hurt get your ass to the dentist asap because they arn't going to get better on their own. Anyway, speedy recovery Jamie!

The only nerve sensation that teeth have is pain. Any pain is a sign of trouble. I had a tooth abscess once. It is not pleasant. Luckily they were able to save the tooth with a root canal.

I go to the dentist once a week to maintain my dentition.
 
$940 wow... gotta pay off someones MD tuition... I was in a very similar situation when they had to chisel some wisdom teeth out of my jaw... 3 hour operation... I couldn't eat anything for 1 week, and I had to get baby food. Since I couldn't open my mouth.

You'll get through it... just make sure they give you enough painkillers.
 
Trust me Jamie, I feel your pain. Go to the dentist and get a "Care Credit" account, super low interest rate and its just like a credit card. I had to get on because I don't have any benefits.

Last summer I had a cavity inside one of my molers and was eating a peanut butter/jelly sandwhich when one of the crunchy peanuts broke my tooth. It actually sent the broken piece up into my cavity and was pushing on the nerves everytime I closed my mouth. I layed in bed for an entire weekend with only Ibuprofen and just moaned the entire time because I've never felt a pain like that ever! I couldn't eat, drink, sleep, NOTHING. I had to wait 2 more days to get into the really good dentist and I when I finally got there I had to get a root canal because I had already had one filling in that moler and there was nothing left of my tooth. :( $2,300 later.....I got a root canal and I can eat again. Pain in my mouth, and a pain in my wallet.
 
Wanna hear a REAL horror story? (You're gonna anyway)

Way back when (again). I think I was about 12 or 13 (just before Jesus was born). Riding afriend on crossbar of bicycle going downhill on a real steep hill...maybe 35 MPH. He stuck his heel in front spokes!! I went over him and handlebars, wacked face into pavement, he hit head, got concussion, but was okay. I ended up having to go to dentist to try to save a front tooth. I never know what the procedure was until after I was in Navy and much older. She (yes, a SHE dentist!) must have loved to inflict PAIN! as she did a root canel on that front tooth WITHOUT the use of Novicaine or any other pain killer! Had to go back like once a week to have drill that hole up behind that front tooth!!! You're gonna have to imagine that pain! I can not describe it. My biggest memory is that stupid alcohol burner she always used to sterilize her instruments and she forgot (or didn't care) how hot they were before she stuck them in my mouth. I KNOW she got her rocks off with every patient. Why did I have to go to her?? Parents didn't have much income, she was CHEAP!! I now know why!! I had dentist phobia ever since!

My dentist never used anesthetic when I was a kid. I think that was the usual practice until the 70's. You just sat there and tolerated the drilling. The pain goes away when the drilling stops. I still refuse anesthetic for drilling. I rather tolerate a few minutes of pain, rather than have a numb mouth for hours.

Ohhh...that guy is a f'n jerk. I hope he puts that on the dating site he's at now that his girl left him. Its almost like she got scared and jumped off, lol! WTF?
 
Jamie knows what I went through last year. I feel bad for ya buddy. If i could, I'd make the pain go away for ya...I just cant reach you with my bat, from here.

narrow down your priorities-sell what needs to be sold, and dont buy what you dont need. You have to live the rest of your life with whatever is going on with your health...dont let some material possessions stop that...

On that note, I'll jump on a plane, and come take your 98 off your hands and in exchange, I'll pay your dental bill. That's the least i can do for one of my friends.

...and lay off the mountain dew!

well i have decided to have them all ripped out , every last one of them. bad teeth run in my fathers side of the family i dont have a male relative on my dads side with real teeth anymore and at 30 years old i am going to join them. my father was the youngest to have falsies, 20 years old, he's had the same pair since and he just turned 60. i didnt want to do it, but im not going through this ever again so my only fast easy way out is fake teeth. now i just need to put the money aside, or use my credit card and be done with it. i'm going to wait till after the baby is born before i pull this off i want to make sure everything goes well and my wife is squared away before i put myself out of commission for a week.

It sounds like you're going to take the big leap if you're serious! You're crazy man, but if you have the same pain as me, I'd be saying the same thing, haha.
