94 mark8, where's the code

HOLY HELL d00d! You left out that VERY VERY IMPORTANT detail, LMAO!

Wow.....ok.....stop where you're at right now. Lets start completely over.

Do you HEAR the fuel pump "prime"? If so, thats a good sign.

Next step if the fuel pump primes is to get ALL the old fuel out! How much is it showing in the tank?

After you drain the tank(siphon, drop the tank), I'd say get 10 gallons of PREMIUM gas in that puppy, and it'd probably be good to add a fuel injector cleaner too like JP said.

Next step is to replace the fuel filter with a NEW one. DO NOT try to start it without doing this....... http://mark8.org/lod/fuel_filter.htm

After you've accomplished this, NOW you can try starting it.

AFTER you get the car running(semi-normal) than you can worry about changing the spark plugs and stuff....first goal is to get it starting on its own without cranking for 30 seconds!

So....recap....

Can you hear the fuel pump?
How much gas is in the tank?
Buy 2(TWO) fuel filters, one for initial startup/diagnosis, and the second to replace after you run that 10 gallons through it.

:fart

Not trying to be repetitive in my posts, but more just elaborating where you left off.

well we didnt just get the car or anything, we've had it since september and we've put feul injector cleaner in it already when we first got the car. we also converted to coil over suspension cause the bags we're a pain in the butt so we just got rid of those.

when we start it now i do give a little gas as you said and it starts up a bit faster, but if i tried to stomp on the gas it takes a while for the motor to respond or sometimes it just boggs down and i have to let off the gas and just ease on the throttle.

But have you replaced the fuel filter?

The fuel will sludge and gum up in months/years of no use and a filter will clog very quickly. Injectors will also suffer.

We have equipment at work that may go for months/years without use. When they are called into action the first thing our mechanics do is drain the fuel, clean the tank if needed, change the filters and put in fresh fuel(be it gasoline or diesel).

From your description of starting it, the idle air/fuel ratio is not where it should be. So i would start with the fuel system first(check the pressure!) then inspect the IAC valve. Also look carefully for any vacuum leaks.

yeah. haha we also haven replaced the air filter. im gonna be doing that soon. im gonna get me a good old K&N. that should help a bit. but ill do that after i work on all of the above. or while im in the process.

Ok....for informational purposes....gas doesn't last much longer than 90 days before it starts breaking down and turning into goop.

Don't waste you're money on a K & N, it isn't going to change anything.

Help us out Nate.....whats the status on the car RIGHT NOW, you keep sending us back and forth in time.....

Are you driving it as is, or is it sitting in the driveway while you work on it? Also....answer our questions above, we can't help you if you don't address the questions.

ok, so right now the car runs i can drive it but i dont because i dont have my license yet so i can only drive with a parent therefore it doesnt get driven that much. i havent changed the fuel filter yet,but i have bought a fuel filter and plugs,so i am ready too. how long will the fuel filter take?...plugs? i havent listened for the fuel pump yet cause my dad has the keys and hes always at work. i think theres about a quarter of a tank of gas in it right now.we changed the serpetine belt.and the suspension. theres only 79 thousand miles on it. i havent driven it since last thursday or friday. my dad says we will mostlikely work on it this weekend.

any other questions?

sorry for the confusion.

OK can you please start a new post describing your problems. We're getting a bit side tracked here.

Help us Help you... in other words.

Also how did you get the car for only $100 ? And what parts did you buy for $1000?

You need new wires $80
New Plugs $20 or so
Fuel Filter $8
Air Filter $10
Can of Sea Foam (do a search on this) $5
Transmission Fluid and filter (do a search on this also).

Ok...you're driving it so thats a good sign. It sounds to me like you're having fuel pressure problems during start up. If you've never changed the fuel filter after 2 years of down time and running the gas through it, this may fix all your problems.

I replaced my fuel filter in probably 7 minutes last time, without pulling the wheel off. BUT I have the special Fuel Line Quick Connect Tool......which you WILL NEED in order to change the filter. Do NOT attempt this until you get that tool.....you're local parts store "should" have it. Again...the link for the walkthrough....

http://mark8.org/lod/fuel_filter.htm

The spark plugs are a bit more time consuming.....I'd say for the average garage mechanic, probably 1-1 1/2 hours should be plenty of time. MAKE sure you check the plug tubes for oil BEFORE removing the spark plugs.....

Also....like Max noted, get some SeaFoam from the parts store and run a can through....follow the directions on the can.

thanks guys i appriciate all the help.

hey, J how much would you say you've spent on your land shark?
that thing is sick. haha. i was thinking about selling mine until i saw yours and i was like dang someday mines gonna be lookin like that....someday. haha.
i got alot of work ahead.

Haha...thanks Nate. Honestly, I haven't spent too much because I do all the work myself(except the paint/exhaust).

I paid $3k for the car.....plus all the mods, I'm going to guess somewhere around $3500 in mods. Plus general maintanence like tires/brakes and crap. Figure probably $7k would be a good estimate of the total dumped into it including the price of the car. Not too bad, and it beats car payments!

Take some pictures of yours and start a new thread and post them for us. We can help you out with your venture! :D

Thanks for the compliments! Did you check out the videos on my CarDomain page?

yeah man i checked out the videos,
id say the sweetest thing is probably the rev-limiter it sounds pretty rad.
and the gauges on the pillars.

ill try posting some pics of my hunk-a-junk.
after i wash it.

how much is a custom chip?

do you know if they make a magna flow or flowmasters mufflers for the mark 8?

i want it to sond mean but i dont want to re-do all the exhast just mufflers and cats maybe?

those cut-out are sick, sounds like a nextel cup car going down the raod. is that smog proof?

A custom chip is $299 and you can tell them what/how you want it.

I would NOT suggest installing flowmasters, but ANY muffler shop can install either on your car. No need to get M8 specific mufflers(they don't make any, lol).

The cutouts are smog legal as far as functionally because they are after the cats, but I won't pass the visual because I no longer have my 3rd cat.

Here is my suggestion....you want your car to sound mean, go to the exhaust shop, have them remove the resonator and the mufflers and install straightpipes where the muffs used to be. VERY nice sounding, clean and crisp, yet loud like a mustang. The bonus of this is that if you don't like it, you can have them install mufflers later.

My exhaust guy charged me $40 to straight pipe everything and get some nice tips.

$40 for straight pipes and nice tips sounds like a good deal to me. im gonna be doing most of the work over summer so ill start looking for some shops around town to do that job.

im also looking at getting new:
wheels/tires(i like j's wheels, where'd you get'em?)
paint(gunmetal gray)
stereo(im getting subs from a buddy of mine for free!!!)
i dont know what else after that but im sure ill find something.

My wheels are off a 99 Cobra Mustang, but you have to do a cobra hub/brake swap in order to change the bolt pattern because the wheels won't fit our cars.

Actually there are some Mark VIII specific mufflers that LMS and Super Coupe Performance sell.

Honestly Serge.....there are NO mufflers specific for any vehicle(except VERY custom ones), they just make a ton of different styles and find out which ones fit and sell them for that vehicle. They sell Mustang ones that fit Corvettes or Chargers, or Honda ones that fit almost every other import.......the point being, if you're buying a "vehicle specific" muffler, you're probably paying more.
