Can someone calculate for me the top speed in 3rd gear for a Mark VIII with 4.30 gears? JP? With 7000rpm redline...

OK!

When I went to 4.30s, my calculations told me for the track, the best option would be 4.56s. I compromised due to the fact I like driving the car on the highway to the track.

Let me know how you like the 4.56s on the highway. ;)

Well I used to drive 100 miles to and from Sacramento Raceway with 4.30's with open cut outs and it wasn't so bad (except on the wallet). 4.56's can't be that much worse. Basically i'm trying to get my 98 to run 13's. It would probably run a 14.5 right now at Sac with my new exhaust, so if I get 4.56's it should put me in the 13.9 range with a good launch.

I'll have your 13 second Mark VIII membership card ready. ;)

Wheres mine? haha

Serge....your car shouldn't use anymore gas on the freeway with the cutouts open than with them closed so I wouldn't factor that in to your options.

I was just talking about the cutouts as an "anti-luxury" item that most people wouldn't stand at all much less on a road trip.

And 4.56 gears aren't lol? I only know of them on rock crawlers and ford F350s with huge tow packages... Cut outs are cool, I love the way Jesse's car sounds with them open :D. Got to get the electric kind.

NA Cobra guys use 4.56's all the time it's nothing... I think im probably going with 4.30's again though because you have to modify 4.56's to fit properly.

Yea a little bit... the rpm climbs too slow with the 3.27's especially with the 7000rpm redline... my current gearing is probably around 3.31 with my 225/55/16 tires but it's not adequate for me. I'm not planning on running it much at the track though, after I do the gears I will run it once at the track to see where the car's at and that will do it. I would love to buy a good gen 1 to have as a car I can race at the track weekly... BFG drag radials, 4.56's and a 3800 stall converter lol...

Gen 1s are cheap... if they only had decent transmissions!!! The engines are good (with the exception of quite a few 95s)...

I would pick up a Gen 1 with a rebuilt tranny for around $1500-2000 and just mod the crap out of it... I woudn't want to have those crazy mods in a nice daily driver. Then go crazy, no exhaust, strip the interior, the mods mentioned above!!

Oh...that makes more sense! :D

What requires modification to get the 4.56's in? You got me curious now.....
