I broke my clock spring and was wondering if I could just run wires to the Acc. and airbag throw the center of the wheel bypassing the spring or maybe useing wire in the clock sring housing any Ideas
Why don't you just replace it with a used one? They are relatively cheap.
If you run a "normal" wire it will tangle and break once you turn the wheel. There is a reason they used a clock spring... it allows the turning of the steering wheel without the breakage of wires.
Ron, you can't be serious. You know what would happen if you ran the wires through the steering wheel? You would twist them and chafe them until the airbag blew up in your face, or you drove around while the horn honked all day long. Fix it RIGHT.
Hi Jamie!
I have a 1993 Mark VIII and the part number on the clock spring that I just took out is F3DC-14664-AB. When I ordered a new one from my local Ford dealer, I got one with a part number of: F1VY-14A664-D. Of course it doesn't fit as the connectors are different. And being that it was a special order and electrical item they won't take it back, even though they ordered it with my VIN number. Bottom line is: I need a working clock spring for my Mark. Can you help me?
Many thanks,
Les Lane
