Back from GM Carlisle 07

I'm back from GM Carlisle and it was a great weekend. As those who have attended Carlisle events you know it's can be oppressively hot and humid or miserably damp and rainy. Well this weekend was amazing, temperature was about 75 with no humidity and beautiful clear skies. You could not hope for better weather!

GM Carlisle is very sparsely attended compared to Ford. There were far fewer cars with large areas vacant and maybe 1/3 the number of vendors. Lots of spectators though.

I was there with my El Camino group. I finished Third which was a total shock as I really didn't expect to get anything at all. There were some really heavily modified cars and since mine is very subdued in comparison I didn't expect a win, especially with a white car.

So CLICK HERE for lots of pictures to see. Note the concept Camaro convertible. Also the $750,000 "HEROS" truck, it's an amazing piece of art, even the semi and trailer that transport it are a real work of art.

One really amazing thing to see was a huge swarm of bees that where suddenly flying around the tables outside the food court. It was a huge swirling cloud and at first I thought they were flies! Apparently they were moving the Queen and they decided to start a new nest on one of the tables, I was lucky enough to see this all happen. Note the progression from a large cloud that got tighter and tighter until they settled in one spot. That night a beekeeper came in to take them away.

Great photos!

I really like that Cadillac Eldorado.

I wonder why there aren't as many GM cars as Fords at Carlisle. They made some great cars.

Great pics... that truck is insane... The amount of work that went into it is amazing... Not sure if I like most of the paint work etc, but the craftsmanship is outstanding.

I was told it cost over $750,000 to build and paint. The pictures just don't even remotely do it justice.

Bby the way, here's the website http://heroestruck.us/

Nice photos! Did you make some new "GM" friends this year?? I know you said you were a bit bored last year, not knowing anyone at the event . . .

Yes, this year we had a number of people from the El Camino Club as we made a concerted effort to get people to come. In fact, we're starting to work with the Carlisle people on planning the El Camino 50th Anniversary in 2009.

I also ran into a number of people from my area, seems the nice weather attracted more attendance. All in all though, the GM show is much smaller than Ford.

I'm also going to Truck Carlisle so if anyone else is going, let me know!

By the way Rene, I tried the other two restaurants. One was pretty good, you could actually have a conversation at a whisper! That was the English pub with the awnings and the restaurant on the side. The other was very noisy and smoky, a smaller version of the Gingerbread Man.

Glad to hear you had more fun this year!

I think I would rather try the English pub next time we come for Carlisle, then. It would be nice to be able to talk to each other, rather than yelling. It was very nice of you to try them out for us! Maybe we could make that our "Thursday night" meet in '08?
