Car running rough at take-off and acceleration!

So, it's OK to drive if the coil packs might be going bad? It won't mess anything else up? AutoZone said they have a guy that can test coil packs at the store. I'm going to try that tomorrow. Could it be a vacuum leak? I can't hear any hissing when accelerating. When I spray Thrust at the intake manifold ,during idle, the engine bogs slightly(just at the front of the manifold, not the rest). All hoses seem to be connected. I think I might hear a little hiss near the throttle body though.

If there's a leak, more than likely that's the neighborhood it will be in as alot of hoses hook up arouind there, as well as the intake tube.

When you get to Autozone have them retest with a code reader and post the results here. I would then have them clear all the codes and drive the car a bit and recheck.

I tested the coil packs today and both turned out bad. The range for the primary windings is between .3 to 1 ohm, both were 0.00 ohms. The range for the secondary windings is 12.8 to 13.1, both were between 14. 5 and 15.5 ohms. After I replace those I wonder what else is going to show up bad!

It is an old car stuff is always going to break. Keep us posted on your progress. Wires, plugs etc are regular maintenance and NOT repairs.

Coil packs are repairs though.

It's typical for various problems to show up once you start fixing stuff. Parts of a system that were once weak and then made strong in many cases put more stress on all other parts of a system, including the weak parts. You just keep fixing until no more weak spots show up.

It would have been regular maintenance if I chose to change wires and plugs, but when the #3 plug blows out of the head and wastes the boot of the wire, rendering such vehicle inoperative, now that IS a repair. Granted, I would not have known about the coil packs if this had not happened so I guess this was a good thing in a strange way.

Well, I put the new coil packs on and it still does the same thing so I'm returning them. I also found out that both the driver's side motor mounts are broken. I did a little power brake, not enough to break the tires loose, to see if I could make it miss under load without actually moving and I watched the engine raise up about 6-8 inches. That might be what is causing the "thunk" when it downshifts to passing gear. I'm taking it to get a full diagnostic Tuesday. I'm tired of guessing!

The injector connections are good. I had a diagnostic done at PepBoys today and he said there were no codes, but, when I told him about the #3 plug blowing out the head and how I had this shop tap the treads and Helicoil it. He checked it out and found that the shop installed the wrong Helicoil. It was half the length of the plug threads, it was barely threaded into the head. He said that could cause the missfire. Also, the #4 plug wire arced down the side of the plug. I don't know about that, but he said I have to get a new plug and wire.
I figure the gap between the threads and the head caused by the Helicoil being too short is causing the miss, at least I hope it's that simple. Maybe it was sucking air through the threads too.

Well folks, the Helicoil in the #3 plug hole was the problem. I don't even think the guy I had do it tapped it all the way through. I went back today and showed him the Helicoil, which came out with the plug, and he said it should've worked. He let me use his modified tap and I tapped the hole myself. The reason I don't think he did it right is because of the amount of metal that came out when I did it. If he did it right it would have just cleaned the threads up. But I could tell it wasn't done before. It's all good now! All I have to do now is get the driver's side motor mount replaced and I'll be tearin' it up again! Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I learn alot from this site!
