Door ajar/Dome light

So I have done the old soak the door latch with WD-40 to get the door ajar warning to go off with success, but this time it came on and that old trick didn't
work.. Is there anything else that might cause this? Something replaceable in the door perhaps?

I understand that the actual switch can be changed in the door latch. This switch is in many FoMoCo vehicles, so I imagine it's available.

What year is your car?

My 94 message center doesn't say which door is ajar. When I had that problem, I sprayed the driver's side door and the message didn't go away until I sprayed the passenger's side door.

If you've got a gen 1, did you do both doors?

Your subject line mentions "dome light" - is it not working when you open/close the door, or are you only having problems with "door ajar" ?

door ajar/dome light

Ok here goes....I have A 97 blue octistar mark and a few months ago after getting in the and car closing the door the dome light stayed on and the message center said door ajar. After cleaning both latches and using WD-40 the problem was solved. Now it acts up all the time no matter how well I make sure the doors is grounding....even when I pop the trunk with the remote the lights will come on and not go out after closing it and locking it. I am not sure about this but I heard from someone that there is something in the door that has to do with the latch that can malfunction in witch you can get the part anywhere for around 20 bucks?

I can't speak for a Gen II, but on my '95 the dome light is activated by the door jamb switch in front of the door. The door ajar message is sent from the latch mechanism area. I recently had to replace the jamb switch because my dome light was behaving erratically - about 7$ from NAPA. Maybe a Gen II owner can shed some more light on the subject.
