right front air bag problem

My first problem!!!

My first problem!!!

:imnew: Hey how you guys and girls DOIN' Well here is my first problem post for you guys and girls!!! When I first bought my car my check air ride would come on. The mechanic that I bought it from told me he replaced the whole system, and the computer just needs to be cleared. After a month of driving I noticed it would lower but then not come back up till I started the car again. Then one day I started my car and went outside and then heard air starting to hiss:fart out about half way up. If I would pull up on the fender it would stop hissing:fart and proceed to go up and stop. Now it won't even go up now. So to make matters worse my car died on me the other day. So I had to tow it to the mechanic for him to look at it. Well all the snowbirds are starting to flock back down here and it took him a couple of days before he was able to fix it. Luckily it only cost me $60 for a new one to be installed. He said it would cost me $450 for him to do the air suspension strut. He said that the air bag will cost around $300, so it better be an original part from ford I will ask him about it. He said that the alternator got fried from being jumped wrong. I told him it was already gone before I jumped the car. He seems like a nice guy but I think he is very thick-headed. He said that if I keep riding the car it will drain out the battery and mess up my front end as well. I have a friend whose parents had a Mark viii and he used to work on it so I will let him look at it also. But, I would like to know what you guys and girls think is really wrong with the air strut and if I drive it how much more damage could I do to the car???? Thanx and have a good one!!!

The mechanic that you bought the car from replaced the whole air ride system? What did he replace it with? Used or rebuilt parts? The air ride computer doesn't need any "clearing". He either doesn't know what he's talking about, or he's not being very honest with you.

It sounds like you've got a leaky front airspring/shock assembly or two. I don't think that it's a good idea to drive the car with suspension problems. It's not good for the air ride compressor either.

If you've got a friend that knows Mark VIII's, I think I'd trust him more than that mechanic.

Take a few minutes to learn how our suspension actually works, and how you can help yourself determine if you really have a problem and what may be causing it. Bad batteries will also cause alternator failures just as bad air compressors will cause failures as well. Driving with your air suspension slammed will definitely over work your front ball joints and lead to damage if let go too long.
