so i just got my car running again about 4-5 days ago and i couldnt be happier untill this afternoon on my way home from work i pulled up next to a turbo honda civic and dude reved on me so light turn's green i gun it then when i shifted into 2nd gear i felt my engine lift and i let of the gas and my engine slammed back on the frame so to make a long story short how do i fix this without pulling the engine? could i just jack it up? if so where do i place the jack.?.

Summary:

1. Jack up car somewhere in the middle of the k-member.
2. Place jack stands under frame just behind the front wheels.
3. Lower car onto stands, but keep jack in place.
4. Remove bolts holding k-member to frame.
5. Lower k-member about 4".
6. Place more jack stands under k-member.
7. Lower k-member onto stands.
8. Remove jack.
9. Remove engine mount bolts.
10. Jack up engine about 3", near the rear.
11. Remove engine mounts.
12. Install new mounts.
13. Assemble car in reverse order as above.

You forgot about using a chain fall or engine hoist holding the engine up, I wouldn't trust it to just balance on a jack. Make sure you don't trust anything hydraulic to hold something above you head, always have something just in case the jack fails.

If the jack were to fail, the engine would come down on the k-member being held up by jack stands.

I must have misunderstood what the point you were making. Either way be careful! I prefer using a chain fall to hold the engine up but whatever works and will get the job done.

After doing engine mounts twice I'm not sure how anyone would want to do this job without lowering the subframe 6 or so inches. I'm not saying it isn't possible, just a hell of a lot easier with the subframe lowered.

Agreed. My method was improvised in light of a lack of a hoist and proper procedure. Doing it my way took many more hours than it should have...mostly because threading in the new mounts properly was near impossible with the clearances we had. That and we weren't sure how much to lower the engine without breaking something, so we kept the lowering to a minimum.

Dang....thread REVIVE! Sorry. :(

The engine hanger belongs to the shop I used to work at. Search around...they are becoming pretty cheap.
