17" tires

I am pretty sure I will be ordering a set of 17x9 rims, but I am wondering if anybody can tell me what size tire I would need to keep the speedo correct?

if you don't mine like a 3% error 245/45 in front and 275/40's out back looks mean as hell. I needed a minor fender roll but it worked great, love the short tires!!

I like the sound of useing the 275/40 in the rear, but would I run into problems with either the trac control or the abs if I was to use the 245/45 in front and the 275/40 in the rear?

Nope, they are exactly the same height, you won't have any problems. Actually my snow tires are different heights front to back and I don't have any problems at all. Although my car doesn’t have traction control the ABS works fine with different height tires front to back (kind of surprising). It must compare tire speeds left to right and not front to back I assume. You will most likely run into rubbing over large bumps, especially if you are lowered. You can take care of that with a fender roll. You can do this by renting a tool, well worth it. The 275's are so mean looking, grip excellent too!!

On a second gen, different size tires front to back will totally screw up the traction control, to the point that the car won't accelerate at all until you stop and shut it off.

I run different size tires front to back. I have to shut off my traction control every time I use the car or it'll retard the timing every time I turn a corner. I've gotten so used to it that it's automatic.

Well I can live without the T/C, but will affect the abs on the gen2?
Also is there away to make the T/C automatically turn off when starting the car? Maybe away to rewire the switch so that I have to hit it to turn it on instead of having to hit it to turn it off?

Also will this rim be wide enough to put the 275's on?

9 inch is a goos width, but you can go up to 10.5 with a 275. I have mine on 9 inch rims and there isn't any sidewall bulge, great fit. Anything less will bulge, although it would probably fit, wouldn't reccomend it.

I have a pair of 12" wide NASCAR tires mounted on 6.5" wide rims at home. They fit, but they bulge like hell. They barely fit the back of a thunderbird.

I never had a problem with ABS with different tires front to rear. Just traction control. I was kind of surprised that i didn't have a problem with the ABS, actually.

what diameter rims are they on? The more sidewll you have the wider tire you can put on and not worry about the bead pulling away or anything. Those tires must have looked SICK!!!

RE: 17" tires

The diameters of the two factory supplied tires are 26.6" & 26.8" (Uniroyal & Michelin if I remember correctly). Go to www.tirerack.com when you decide on a size. They have info on diameter, section width, tread width, etc. for all available makes & sizes. There are other .coms out there with info too. I'm just most familiar with theirs. Good luck.

RE: 17" tires

My TC on my 98 goes nutz with different size tires.

I can run 60's in the back and 55's in the front but if you switch them around the T/C goes active at 20 mph and will not turn off until you slow down and de-activate tc
