1990 Starter BLOW UP

I have a 1990 Lincoln Continental Signature Series. My car has been sitting for about a year and when I tried to start it the battery was dead. I put a 12 volt charger on it and let it charge over night, the next morning I noticed battery acid underneath the car. With the battery charger still hooked to the battery I went ahead and tried to start it. It cranked a few times and then just clicked. I figured I toasted the battery so I bought a new one. I installed the new battery and it still won't turn over, it just clicks. Sounds to me like the starter is clicking like the engine locked up and the starter can't turn it. Am I wrong, did I create a mechanics nightmare or can it be easily fixed. Thanks, Lincoln Bonehead.

Sounds like the starter solenoid went bad...but that's just a theory. Take it to a good mechanic to be sure. If the solenoid is separate from the starter (like my 85 T-Brid was) it'll be a snap to replace. If not, it could cost you some bucks.
