1993 lincoln mark viii Torque Converter

I can help you out. What are you plans with the car? Are you wanting just a replacement or something with a slightly higher stall ect. The one you posted you need to run away from. The thing with most TCs is that you get what you paid for. So an $80 TC from there or any place would be a far cry from your stock one. Read what they say "Stock OEM replacement (including factory updates). New or Inspected Bearing, Verified Pilot, Burnished hub, inspected turbine splines, friction material inspected or replaced with new, friction surface area is mircopolished, computer balanced and leak checked."

In other words they take a stock TC open it and see if there's any failed or worn parts. If not they clean it and weld it back together. Any parts that needed replaced are replaced with cheap parts including a paper thin friction lining. They couldn't sell them that cheap without doing this. I know what goes in these and what it costs to build them.

I plan to keep the car. From what I am reading, I have the new fluid already and am waiting on the parts from Max at 5star. Should be here friday. I was thinking just changing the parts out he sends me flush the system and change the fluid and see what happends before I go and buy a TC. Then I will know the TC is bad for sure.

If you're going to go that far than you might as well pick a good set of drill bits and do the Jmod too.

I dont want to modify the tranny with the JMod just yet. I have read the tech articals. Maybe when it gets warmer, I will. Just want to see if I can get rid of this shudder, before I take it down to Flordia on the 15th of Feb with the family. I just want to make sure I will not get stuck somewere on the road.

I hope you a going to use Mercon V for the fluid, as you didn't say so above. It would also help your tranny life if you also put in a tranny cooler as well.

Did the Job today

Boy was I lucky. Went to my local shop and the owners were not there. So my friend let me use the lift and I dropped the tranny pan, replaced the 1-2 accumulator with the new style and both upper and lower springs, with a new pan, filter and gasket. Drained the TC, didnt drop the cooler or drain that. But filled with Mercon V and boy is it better. Shifts better and now I dont have that "Shudder:" anymore. I Picked up a passangers side Inner tie rod, and a drivers side Strut bar bushing kit and going back on monday to install that. Then I will have a sweet front end done. Car feels much better now. I gave him $100.00 for letting me use the lift and all the tools. Was a good deal for me and him.
