3.73 gears

If one were to want these, do you need just the gears or do you need the Trac-Loc case too? Is there a specific part number to search for?

Been trying to research these gears but I've been seeing something about "needing" Trac-Loc too.

Trac-loc is not a must, but you do want it. It will add a few hundred for a new one. Used ones can be had cheap, but you will want to rebuild it.

You are going to want the traction lock. With 3.73s or 4.10s especially, you may have traction concerns. She can get pretty squirrely into 2nd gear. :D

Gotcha, thanks! I've seen some on the 'Bay but I didn't want to buy them and then not have them be the right ones. Can anyone find some on eBay and advsie which ones would be best for me? Does it already come with the 3.73 gears inside?

Don't price shop gears. Get the Motive brand or buy from FRPP. Blue Oval Chips can get you everything you need. (I'm not sure which brand SCP has - you'll want to call and ask.)

You can save money with a used traction-lok and get a rebuild kit.

That's good to know John considering mine have a nice terrible wear pattern in them from a poor install on mine. Guy claims they are still within range. Now the rear end clanks too. Sounds like I'll be checking out BOC since I am inevitably forced to purchase new gears. I think they are past the point of no return.

Thanks, I was going to contact Lonnie in the future (near future) to have him burn me a chip for the mods I'm going to be doing:

Air box removal, maybe larger MAF, mid-mount dual in/dual out Flowmaster 50 series with Magnaflow X-Pipe, J-Mod, 1-2 accumulator upgrade, Mercon V, 3.73 with trac-lok.

Regarding FRPP and BOC which part number(s) should I be looking for? I keep seeing 8.8 with 28-spline, is that what we have? I'd rather get quality than a better price for some cheap stuff.

Gotcha, thanks. I guess what's throwing me off is the casing, it looks different to what's back there now.

Skip the air box removal and larger MAF for the moment and go straight to a high stall converter. :D 3600-3800 rpm range with a large tranny cooler. In my videos on that other thread, just to give you an idea, NOTHING has been touched under the hood. Stock pullies, stock MAF, stock injectors, stock intake. Don't get me wrong, those items are all in the works, but you gain a whole lot more right off the bat with a stall converter. Trust me on that one. I now run door to door with a 13.4 second Panther my buddy has.
