Take of the grill and see for yourself. You will definetly need some kind of contraption to mount the speaker since the old mounting holes won't work. Oh and the rears are 5x7s. So I doubt you'll fit anything over 6.5 inch components behind that grill.

Here's an idea of what you have to work with back there. The silver is sound deadening... without it you might have another 1/16" of room.

As you can see, you would need to do lots of chopping to get an 8" speaker in there. I don't know how much clearance there is between the sheet metal and the interior panel, but I think there would be 1/2" to 1".

i have a set of 8" speackers in my back pannels. yes i did have to cut a bit and they are only held in by 2 screwes but they are there. I also have a set of 6.5's in my doors and some aftermarket tweeters in the stock tweerer "box" in the front doors. I taped into the stock wires comming out of the stock amp to power the 6.5's in the doors and the stock amp still powers the tweeters. Not counting the stock amp i have 1340 watts in my trunk and i can be heard

yeah man u would have to do some serious chopping to get an 8" in there why don't u go with 5x7's in the doors keep the orignal size dont modify it and make kickpanels for the 8" what i did in my mark vii 89 i got 6.5 2 way alpine coaxials in the doors did some modifing to the door brackets and actual holes for the speakers and as for the back 6x9 bouston acousitcs then in the back 2 12's made a custom sealed box for em myself and damn they pound u can here me coming for sure:). but man if you want to mod it go ahead like i said if your not comterable in your ride it seems like its not even your car u have to make it your car man:)
