86 lincoln

I've got an 86 town car, sig series with 183k on the engine (5.0L w fuel injection). I'm looking at replacing the engine later this year and could use some input. The first choice is to go with a factory rebuilt engine and keep everything the same. Another choice would be to go with a crate engine with an engine computer upgrade. Another choice would be to grab an engine out of a newer Lincoln.

The car is a daily driver, so I'm not looking at building a race car, but I would like to have improved power and a smoother transmission. It seems like the current transmission is a pain shifting through the mountain highways.

This is all off the top of my head here tonight. I'm not a mechanic so feel free to through any thoughts up here.

RE: 86 lincoln

well, first off do you have to have a town car for the size? Why are you attached to this car? With these questions anwsered you can kjinda follow my thinking.

I think for the money that you are going to put back into this car that you could sell the car as is, and put the money that you were going ot put into it and get a newer lower mileage car. A newer Town car is a choice, perhaps an early 90's model car, or even a early mark VIII.

But if you jstu love the car for some reason, I would jsut do a simple swap with a rebuild since it is your daily driver.
