I would like to know if you guys have any ideas on what I need to do to get my 93 to pass the Georgia emsissions test. I am tring to avoid spending alot of money to get it fixed. I just need it to pass so I can drive my car. I scanned a picture of the emissions test and I talked to the guy at the place and he told me I probably needed a new egr valve. Any ideas? Thanks

RE: 93 mark emissions test

The EGR does control most of your NO emissions. However, I would perform a Seafoam treatment on your car and try again. The fluid might be able to clean out some of that carbon in your EGR.

If that doesn't work, then replace the EGR.

RE: 93 mark emissions test

I replaced my EGR tube because it had a hole in it and I was getting a check engine light and poor fuel mileage.

After I replaced the tube, The check engine code was still there and the mileage was still bad. I had to replace the DPFE sensor and that cured it.

Both of my high mileage cars have the original EGR valves still, although I think my red Mark has a leaking EGR tube now. It has no CE light and the mileage is still great but, I don't know if it would pass an emissions test (we don't need them in Michigan).

RE: 93 mark emissions test

Well my ce light has been on since I got the car and with all the different sensors and such in these cars I really have no idea where I would even begin to start trying to fix that however it doesn't seem to affect anything so I'm not to worried about that. My gas mileage is fine so thats not a problem either. Really the biggest problem now is passing the emssions which I would rather actually pass than bribe a shop. My dad says he think he can put on a new egr valve and I guess they are around $50 so I think I will probably try that first. I don't understand what exactly I do with the seafoam either so if you could maybe explain that a little better, Thanks for the replys guys I apperciatie it.

Seafoam is a fluid that is poured (or sprayed) into the intake via a vacuum hose or other entry point while the engine is running. The fluid is sucked into the engine and breaks down any build-up that may be in your engine, EGR, catalytic converters, etc. It is very cheap and easy to do and there are more detailed instructions on the can itself. I think Autozone sells this now, as does NAPA.
