A Stock Gen2 trans installed in a Gen 1

I finally finished up installing a 97 trans in my Green 94. It is the trans that was in Jeremi's parts car that we took apart.

The trans turned out to be a Ford remanufactured unit. After removing the pan, it looks like it was a recent rebuild (thanks again Jeremi:)).

The trans works great! It shifts fine and I have no more clunking during tip in and out.

Driving the car seems to "feel" quite different now. It almost feels more like my 98 (even though my 98 has a 3.27 rear end).

I know there were some changes to the trans since 94. It's hard to explain the difference I feel when driving the car. Has anyone else noticed this or does anyone else have any insight about the differences between the transmissions?

Or am I just imagining this because my old trans had slop in it (it shifted and ran fine otherwise).:D

I do have a 97 trans in my red 94, but it has a J mod so I really can't compare it.

The green one will be getting a J mod soon too though.:big-grin:

It's typical of 1st gen trans to be sloppy. Come on, even if yours was remanned, it was still the original case and most of the internals. You know how the trans is usually rebuilt ... only the worn out clutches are replaced. The rest of the stuff remains the same. With 200k miles on it, you're surprised it felt sloppy ?

I'm not just talking about the sloppiness, the shifts seem different, more like the feel of the 98. Maybe a bit softer. I thought that feeling was because of Gen 2 timing changes during shifts. I'll let you drive it sometime to try to see what I mean.

It may be that I'm just too used to the J modded red Mark.:D

Good job Bill! :)

I wonder if the early transmission programming is different than that on the Gen2s?
