Alternator excitement!

It was YOUR idea to CONTINUE to drive the car after you had several signs of the alternator dying!
So it was, and I never denied that.

Dang..... We're all just here to help, no need to get angry. Again, it was YOUR to continue to drive a car with flashing warning lights and it was YOUR idea to walk all that way. I'm not sure where you live, but couldn't you call someone? A cab, a bus, AAA? :)
Only one person has answered the question that I asked. One other person made an informative comment, some of the rest of the comments have been in a negative manner, because their situation is different from mine, and they can not comprehend that not everyone has the some level of convenience that they do. Heck I grew up a block from a parts store, so walking five miles rather than down the block is still foreign to me, and I'd rather it stays foreign!

Unfortunately, the alternators would not magically change places. Take a cab? Yeah. Let me spend the afternoon waiting for the driver to find where I live and have to make a second call sometime later as the driver claimed it was a non existent address. Been there - Done that. Not going to do it again. A bus? The bus line swings back around, a block from the parts store. Not really going to help to take the bus for a block is it? AAA - Used them to get the car home. They always say the driver will be there in half an hour, but call back in an hour if he isn't there. Never had a AAA assistance driver show up in less than an hour. Call someone? What a great iDea! If I had anyone to call, I would have. After the walk from the transmission shop, I have no qualms about calling someone for a ride. Unfortunately, most people are at work on Monday and not available, as most employers aren't too happy about letting employees split for two hours in the middle of the day.

I didn't blame anyone here for my decision to walk, and trust me it was nothing like 'Forrest decides to go for a walk,' but when someone says they walked a mile to the store and then begged for a ride home because they bought something there, and then tell me that I should have done the same( and I did ask for a ride back! Again - only one employee in the store/can't leave) and that what was not possible for me, should have been because they did it, and imply that I'm too lazy to make the walk again.

Or to say, why didn't you find it in a search, I found it on my first hit? When their search terms are completely different from the problem that is being researched and are completely focused on their comment. When you search for something, you will get many false positives where someone only mentioned one of your search terms on the third page of a thread. You can't read them all, and you will more likely focus on topics that closely match what you are looking for.

Has your Mark ever done anything odd, or flashed a bogus message on the display, or continue to give incorrect information because of a problem nobody knows a solution to, or a problem that nobody cares to figure out?
If after flashing a message, it then proceeds to do the exact opposite of what that message would imply, then how do you trust the system?

Lincolns of Distinction offers a great deal of information for it's readers to research for working on these cars. There are people here that one can count on to provide insight and worthwhile information into the situation, and there are those that just need to exercise their fingers. Instead of making backhanded insults and telling people who one has no idea of their situation what they should have done after the fact when they are making the best of the situation at hand, one should try being less caustic. People might be happier, rather than pissed off at the "help" that is offered.

+4 for jump boxes...

Tiffany's car puked an alternator and battery on a toll road, with no access to the service road.
I hooked my jumper box to her battery and closed {mostly closed) the hood and she drove the car about 12 miles down the road to the "next exit" and got safely off the road.

That jumper box has saved me more than once.

.

yea.. I searched "bad alternator"..but the "term" bad was too short.

Since I knew I had heard this and knew it was posted here, I found a search term that would "Find the result I needed".

"sometimes" you have to be a little "creative or use your imagination"...

Not everything is "SPOON FED" to you, sometimes you have to actually "hunt" down the solution.

No need to get all defensive.. nor miffy.

I accept the fact that you have less experience than many here on this board, maybe you should accept it as well.. and "TAKE" help when help is given, rather than just batting it back and making snide remarks to those that were MERELY trying to HELP YOU>

Sorry my help doesnt "measure up" to your "expectations".. I wont try to help again.

Yes, this is unfortunate. There was a lot of "kick him when he's down" in this post.

I thought you did well under your circumstances.

I do too.. and yea.. I probably said more than I should have, but.. that's nothing unusual.

I'm not much of a "spoon feeder" any more I guess.. and that's my fault.. not the original poster..

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

Smithcraft, I'm sorry sir...

(looks at wayne with that "I DID IT AGAIN" look)

HAHA..(embarassed smile)

As far as the door locks cycling when you turn the dome light off, that is normal. My gen 1's do that, I haven't checked the gen 2 yet.:)

By the way, I forgot to mention that this only happens when the Auto Lock feature is enabled. You can disable the auto lock feature by using the keyless entry pad on the outside of the drivers door. Punch in your code and while holding down the 7/8 button press the 3/4 button to toggle the feature on or off.

We'll take that as a compliment.

Five bucks says you'll be buying a jump box! ;)

Sorry you got affended, I TRIED to put as many smiley's as I could so you know I wasn't trying to "kick you while you're down".

:embarrassed:

Noble words, sir. :wave022:

I myself am also known to 'preach' more than I should sometimes.
