I have a friend with a 1990 Chrysler New Yorker Fifth Avenue, and recently it has been acting funny, it starts ,but then it dies right away, like when the alarm is activated, but no alarm is going off, it will start right back up but dies again. She bought a door alarm sensor, replaced all fuses and relays and still no go, anyone got any ideas?

Boy, you got me digging into the old grey matter here...Something is in the back of my head thinking about this 'resister' that was in the early Chrysler Corp's cars ignition circuit. I think it's purpose was to cut voltage from 12v to ??? that the ignition required. If it opened up, the car wouuld do exactly that...start and immediately die.

Anyone else remember anything about this?

I know absolutely nothing about chryslers, I can tell you about rx7's and a bit on lincolns, but I do not like chryslers, I told her to get rid of it, she hasnt been able to start it in months.

That's good advice. New Yorkers/Fifth Avenues/Imperials of that era are among the most unreliable Chryslers ever made, and that's *really* saying something.

The first thing I'd do is check the computer. If you turn the key on-off-on-off-on within 5 seconds or so, it should go into diagnostic mode. It'll show any stored fault codes by flashing the check engine light. For instance, 4 flashes followed by a pause and 2 more flashes would be code 42. BTW, you might be able to find more info on www.allpar.com.. it's a great Mopar site.
