I finally did it. I worked a trade with a fellow Mark VIII owner. As some of you may know, I am the local "Mark VIII performance/modification" guy in the bay area. Many Mark VIII owners bring their cars to me for modifications, upgrades, or simple service work. I do not charge a dime for my work. I "trade". They buy me something for my car, and I fix theirs Although I keep forgetting to collect for the cases of Mercon V I supply.(oh well, what are friends for?)
One of my good friends did just that. I sold him a Reinhart chip, installed it, did some suspension work, and a complete tune up on his 95, in exchange for a 12" sub in an enclosure, and an old amp he had. I wanted bass, he needed mods-a deal was set.
He was supposed to "install it" for me, but never got around to it.
So, one day I decided to do something I had never done before. I had my nice Pioneer single CD player. I took out my factory head unit, wired in my Pioneer(with one of those $10 Schoche kits), wired the amp, and Sub, and was amazed that I did it all right. Mind you, I had never even popped a head unit out of a dash before. This, to me, would be like rebuilding a transmission, to you audio experts.
Anyway, I love the sound quality, and the nice thump I have. However, I miss my old 10-disc capabilities. I get tired of swapping CD's in and out of the palyer while driving.
So, here is my question. What do I need to do to the factory wiring to get my sub/amp combination to work with my factory head unit, and 10-disc changer(in trunk), without losing my JBL(which I never touched)???
I know I need to plug my head unit into my old factory wiring plugs, but where/how can I plug my amp into the factory head unit?
If any of you can explain it to me, without using any "audio" terms, I would appreciate it.
To help you understand the limit of my audio aility, here's an example of how much I know:
I know on the back of the factory head unit, there were 2 small plug-ins, on big one, and one itty-bitty one. I used the Schoche kit to replace the big one, and one of the little ones. The other little one, and the itty-bitty one arent hooked up. I assume the itty-bitty one is for the 10-disk. I have no idea what the other little one was for. it just sits behind my dash, doing nothing, yet my sound system works perfect.
There... see what I mean?
Any help would rule.
I just want my factory 10 disc(trunk mounted) back, with my factory head unit, and be able to use this "thump" in the trunk.
Unless there is ANY way to get my factory(sony) 10-disc to work with my Pioneer(I hear this is impossible since the two units cannot "communicate" with each other)
Thanks Gang.
EDIT:
I have one of those big fuses at the battery, the big blue power cable through the firewall, and the amp is wired to the Pioneer via RCA jacks(pre-outs on the Pioneer). I also used a hot-lead from the Pioneer to power my antenna. Pioneer on=antenna up.
