Bad oil leak on startup then it stops

ok, my mark viii is a 96 - had it for about a year, and has had this little problem for awhile now. When i first start it up in the morning (only if engine is cold) i have oil pouring out (started out by just a few drips) It seems to originate on the oil filter mounting peice (its a peice the oil filter screws on to) and it is bolted to the block. It drips out of a certian bolt (the only one that i can seem to get to) behind the power steering pump. But after engine warms the oil leak stops completely. I tried tightening the bolt and did not help at all. The gasket looks great. Any ideas? hope its not serious i love this car.

You need to buy an oil filter adapter gasket for $35 and replace it... it is kind of a pain... also do a quick search this forum. You need to drain the coolant and the oil to do so.

I agree. I had a leak in HOTLNC and a oil filter adapter gasket fixed it. And yes, replacement rates a 7 on the PITA meter.

Been there, done that. Not too bad to do....Go in through the driver's side wheel well, it's easier that way.
