baffling tranny issues?

my trans seems like it takes along time to go from drive to reverse any idea what could be causing that? if i man shift my car sometimes it wont go into 3rd or 4th gear? the rpms fall like it comes out of 2nd gear just like it should as long as i have my foot off the gas. then if i step on the gas again it revs up to about the 2nd gear rpm for the speed in going if that makes any since. i also have a bad shudder if im in OD with the converter locked and step on the gas a little bit. it feels like the converter locking and unlocking real quick. the only mods i have done to my trans is a 3200 stall and a "stage 2" j-mod the fluid is full, bright red and does not smell burnt. im thinking my front pump is not building enough pressure and about to take a dump on me but what do yal think?

i have 2 extra stock tranys here im thinking about rebuilding one of them with all the good stuff and swapping it in before mine leaves me on the side of the road.

If it is a pump problem then raising the engine rpm will make it engage quicker.

On my dragster the pump only works well over 1500 rpm. If I hit the trans brake with less rpm then the car rocks back and forth.

like when im moving my car forward stop and then shift into reverse it takes a while to go into gear but if i rev it a little it goes right in. could this be caused by the high stall converter or does it sound more like a front pump?

Let's put it this way, my new tranny is practically instantaneous going into forward or reverse from any gear position.

Low fluid will cause this, but you said its full. Sounds like an internal issue....that won't be easily fixed.

Front pump. My dragster trans pops immediately into any gear. My transbrake requires higher fluid pressure to work properly but the gears should not.
