Blacked out lens *pics*

I decided to do some surgery on my 2nd gens headlight. The individual housing that protects the hid bulb was broken and that allowed water to get inside the main housing. There were many water spots on the bottom of the housing, which made it look UGLY so I painted it black. I really like it now!! FYI, the turn signals shines just fine during the day and night. What do you guys think.
I've seen one other mark with blacked out lights like this

These first pics are the process. I used JB weld to spot weld and filled in the rest with a black silicone.

Nice work, I second the darkening of the lens, even though it will fade and get dark anyways, lol.

That would look wicked!!! I have to do the other side but it's in mint condition so I don't want to touch it. Thinking about just getting one off ebay but we'll see.

Look into the 3M "invisible bra"(not sure the exact name). Its a sticker type covering that is custom fit for your car, you may be able to get it in a smoked/tinted color. It blocks the suns UV rays so it would help the lenses from fading and you could get the look you desire.

I looked into that, and while I may still get them, I've opted to try a clear spray-on UV & impact protectant.

The film laminates I've seen run around $150 for a pair. I could only find universal kits, meaning you have to cut them out of the film yourself. Sounds like a lot of trouble for a lot of money.

I only know a certain amount about the product because we have a customer that brought in his 06 Z06 in for us to check it out(paid 106K, 3rd one sold in Sac,CA) and he had a Mobile guy come out and do the entire front end. Cool stuff, couldn't even tell it was their except the line across the hood. He did the entire front bumper, headlights, fog lights and front of the hood. It is expensive because I think he paid $500 installed or something, but on a BN Z06 its worth it.

Never heard of the spray on stuff.

Video of the 3M stuff.

You can buy the bulk 3M stuff on eBay for 25 bucks. 6" x 84" wide sheet. The same buyer also has film overlays in smoke/blue/yellow/Xenon white? lazer cut to match any(except a M8, haha) vehicle.
