PITTSBURGH - The Blue Flame was spotted by the paparazzi at a local drag strip, the Pittsburgh Raceway Park located 30 miles east of Pittsburgh near New Alexandria, Pennsylvania.

This is the second confirmed report of the modified Lincoln Mark VIII at a dragstrip this racing season from undisclosed sources. The car underwent surgery last year and managed only a couple of events late in the 2009 season.

In the off-season, new wheels, brakes and suspension upgrades were added to the car. And earlier in the year the 1993 Lincoln had underwent a dynotune procedure at a local speed shop in preparations for the upcoming racing season.

Pittsburgh Raceway Park opened the 2010 season this past Saturday. The weather was unseasonably warm with temperatures at the track in the upper 80's. A stiff breeze kept the humidity low but at times was also a headwind to the racers at the track and everyone seemed to have been running slower than expected. The venue was jammed with participants none the less looking to shake off their winter blues and eager to get the opportunity to run their cars at the dragstrip.

The racing team used the day to test various tunes that had been developed since the last outing. Under the adverse weather conditions, the Blue Flame only managed a 13.87 ET with a 100.9 mph trap speed. Despite the less than encouraging performance, the owner stated "The car still has untapped potential. We are working towards a tune at the present time, but it is a dauntingly slow process."

The next event for the team is scheduled on April 17th, at a private track rental at the Mason Dixon Dragway near Hagerstown, Maryland.

Isn't this the same car that has already ran a 13.113 in the past?

I heard they also sent the driver in for some more physiological training as well, in an attempt to improve the times. Rumored sponsors Budweiser and Alieve are stepping up as silent partners for these sessions.

Are you sure it is physiological training or is it psychological evaluation? LOL :D

Why not both? ;)

LOL, that could work, then I could get some 'happy pills' to go with the Budweiser and Aleve.

I needed some 'happy pills' at the track. Eight runs in eight hours leaves a lot of free time to sulk and ponder.

I had 4 pre-loaded tunes to test and I ran them 0,1,2,3 and then 3,2,1,0. I had my new toy, a Kestrel 4250 hand-held weather meter tracking the weather and then using my Blackberry 9700 to verify the weather stats and calculate performance differences. Unfortunately I didn't have my second new toy installed yet, a Zeitronix ZT-2 wide-band O2 meter with datalogging capabilities. By the time I had ran tune 3, I pretty much knew which was best but my analytical mind required me to stay on course and repeat the previous runs to verify the data. Had more time been available, I would've liked to have run a couple more times to collect further comparison data between two of the tunes.

There is a LOT of work yet to do, not only tuning and collecting data at the track but also a few changes to the race-trim as well. A higher stall converter is imperative and a pair of front skinnies to replace the huge rollers up front should help.

And I have to replace the rear brake lines before Doug has a stroke! :D

Wow 8 runs in 8 hours, that does allow for a lot of "soak time" The track must have been crowded. As usual the car sure looks great, look forward to reading more posts down the road.

I have already predicted that one, that's why I asked. Pushing 50 more rwhp, it aint too far out. :D

JP would have been in the 12's with one of Lonnie's special converters...and this is prior to all of the mods he just did.

A lot of Mustang guys are dropping around 0.5 sec just by going to a carbon fiber TC alone...
