Broke old remote...bought new remote

How do I program it to run on the current frequency without paying the dealership to do it? I've been told it can be done but the dealership won't give me the secret handshake to do this on my own. What do I do? The one I got doesn't have the Lincoln emblem etched in it, but it has all the same buttons and the info on the back cover reads identical to the current one I have. It got broke when I took my car in to the stereo shop here to get woofers and box installed. When I got back, the tech was fiddling with it because he dropped it and stepped on it. It never worked afterwards. HELP!!!!

RE: Broke old remote...bought new remote

Ok, next dumb question. Based on what I read, 2 remotes can be programmed to set the mirrors and seat where each individual driver wants it to be set? I was unaware that this can be set on this year car. I know I have the preset buttons on the driver door, but I didn't know each transmitter can be set differently. This remote isn't programmed to operate on this car period. Will this function make that new remote work after all is set? It might sound silly, but I've never been faced with this problem. By the way, thanks for reminding me these questions are listed on the site. I totally forgot.

When you enter the programming mode as described in the Tech FAQ, The first remote programmed is associated with the #1 memory preset. While still in the programming mode, if you program a second remote immediately after the first remote, it will use the #2 memory preset.

So if I am reading this correctly, you really do NOT need one of those Lincoln remotes with the switch on the back that determines if remote is # 1 or #2?

I believe this is true for the 1st gen remotes. I'm not sure about the 2nd gen remotes.

you need different ones with second Gen's, they are marked #1, and #2.

RE: Broke old remote...bought new remote

I did exactly as directed and the remote works now, but they don't act any different between #1 and #2. I set my seat and mirrors and programmed #1, then had the wife set the seat and mirrors and programmed #2. But the seat and mirrors don't move between unlocking the car with #1 and #2. Did I miss something?

Re-program your memory presets now that the keyfobs are programed. Do you have a #1 and #2 on the drivers door? I have a 2nd gen, and I DO have the #1 and #2 buttons on the drivers door. Once you reprogram the seats, mirror, etc. them push the memory button on the door...either 1 or 2. It should remember the positions.
