Busted front bag from a speed bump

i was going through a parking lot last night. and when i hit the speed bump the passenger strut buckled in the middle. They came from Orielly's, Who got them from Arnott. Has any one ever broke a front strut so easy before or has anyone delt with Arnott on warrenty the bags are 2 days old and there had a car in front of me. it had to be defective looking for a piece of mind thanks

If I remember correctly, except for electronics, O'reillys has a 90 day warranty on the parts they sell. Of course they may claim "improper installation".

i am hoping they don't go that route bot the lot i bought the car from and myself have accounts there so hopefully they will do the right thing. Arnott has a 30 day money back garentee as well

I got mine from Arnott and dealt with them directly. I had some warranty problem..can't remember exactly what, but called them and they replaced the part ASAP!

I would maybe not mention the speed bump. :) Even if you did hit the speed bump, they should not do this. Heck, I hit a bad construction patch and blew a tire and all. Loud as heck. But the strut, new 97/98 OEM, was fine. It take a lot of force to compress a strut and blow a tire like I did.

yea i have never heard of a strut failing structurally, and I agree in regards to leaving the "speed bump" out of the conversation when dealing with Oreilly's or Arnott.

Of course Kracker left out another important part of the event

He didn't tell you the parking lot he was in was the movie theatre and he was on his way HOME from seeing "SPEED RACER" and when he hit the speed bump he was going "CHUCHUCHUCHU"!

GO SPEED KRACKER GOOOOo!

just say "AAhhhaAAAAhhHAAhh" for me one time~

i got a mark from the auction that didnt look right in the front when it came to the shop, after getting it off the floor and pulling the driver front tire off i could see the strut was about 8 inches longer then it should have been and it was bent in the center of the air bellow and looked like it was about to burst. after removing it and letting the air out i took it apart and found that the strut itself, the shock rod inside had snapped in half inside the ait bladder, thats why it was so long, because the rod snapped and the bag was still full of air and stretched like you wouldnt believe. i was very nervous about going anywhere near this thing but i got lucky !!! they can fail, but i think the chances are like 1000 to 1

thanks jamie guess i got that 1 in a 1000. i will find out the fate mon morning when the dealer contacts the auto parts store. where they were ordered.

Speed Racer huh LOL! nice.

Nan I installed it correctly the bag was the only thing holding it up. It is just like Jamie described the strut inside the bladder is in two pieces

oh so it happend like the one i had? i had never seen it in 9 years of messing with mark VIII's to have the actual strut catridge rod snap inside the bladder, when i sliced the bag open with a razor to look inside i noticed alot of rust around where the rod snapped in half, and there was a whole mess of water and oil from the strut at the bottom of the air bladder. weird. i think i took pics im gonna look.
HA i knew i took a pic, this is it, some of you remember the spring feature 98 lsc i had last year, the strut was on that car, you can see in this pic how unbelievably long the strut is, and you can see how far the bottom plastic casing is away from the air bladder, this strut was seriously about 8 inches longer then a non damaged strut. when the car was on the ground, it looked normal, but as soon as i jacked it up, wow i was ready to run out of the shop!!!
