Cam shim Installation

RE: Ken's 14.3

RE: Ken's 14.3

I've posted this many times before on the 'other' board.....

R/T - .655
60' - 2.217
330 - 6.168
1/8 - 9.345
MPH - 77.59
1000 - 12.052
1/4 - 14.317
MPH - 97.46

The only mods on my 1993 Mark are single-X exhaust, K&N panel filter, and Bill's drilled air-box mod. This run was with new plugs and wires, freshly cleaned K&N, and new shocks.

Before any mods my car ran 14.6 @ 97 MPH (hense my username)

Ken

PS - I can't even have the same username over here :(

RE: Ken's 14.3

Thanks for clearing that up Ken.

I was off on the MPH by alot, sorry Joe.

See the Pro-M's aren't really all they are cracked up to be, I believe your mph came from the ported in take and the fact you had an open element filter on it as well.

RE: Ken's 14.3

I think the intake was a good mod. I also think that I can/will get a lot more out of the intake setup on this car. I have not even scratched the surface yet. I need to get a lot more tq out of the intake as well as a lot more HP. I need to brush up on my TIG skills in the process too...

EDIT**
I also think that dyno Eli and I have been using is all screwy. There is no way 4000lbs of car and me go across the 1/4 mile at 99.77 mph and only make 220rwhp.... Am I the only person that think that is a little off?

Yeah, cause my car dynod the same and doesn't get those numbers. Plus you still think my car's a dog compared to the red one and our dyno numbers were just about identical.

Please post any and all questions or discussion about this modification..

Joe, first of all, thank you for posting the pics of the cam shim installation. I know that it takes time and energy to size the pics and write the narrative.

I was unaware of this issue. I do have a few questions regarding this job.
[font color=blue]
1) Did Ford correct this issue on later models or is it still an issue on my 98? If not, do the newest 4.6 DOHC's still have this issue?
2) Do the problems caused by the improper tension manifest at lower RPM's or just at higher RPM's?
3) How long did the job take to complete?

Thanks again for the info and pics.

--I believe this issue was corrected on the tumble port heads (99+)

2) Do the problems caused by the improper tension manifest at lower RPM's or just at higher RPM's?

---All rpms's, But of course the more revolutions the engine rurns per minute the more this tension issue will affect the motor.

3) How long did the job take to complete?

---I can do it on a gen 1 in less than an hour. i suspect that I could do a Gen 2 in half the time.

Thanks again for the info and pics.
